Da Vinci Code, big movie or big fraud?

The church's objection centre on a complete rewriting of history to suit the novel, and that people may believe that the story line is based on truth.

The explanation behind the art, so much tosh, the mumbo jumbo under the heading of art, the equally ridiculous moving of dates, events and meeting in relation to the church... and I know it's apiece of fiction but a lot of people out there, well, don't know the difference. Which is the problem.

Was listening to the radio the other day and there was a small piece on the news about how about two thirds of the people surveyed believed the story was fact and about half believed that Mary Magdalene had a child fathered by Jesus.

I've also met a couple of people (otherwise highly intelligent and academic peeps) who got incredibly angry when I dismissed it all (including 'Holy Blood & Holy Grail) to be tosh. Frightening really.

I just saw the film too, it isn't brilliant but to use such adjectives as shit isn't called for. To answer your question savage henry the church (or a sect of it) believed that the grail would reveal itself. They don't think 'oh they will discover DNA in the future and reveal that mary magdalene had a child'. They put that down to faith that such an event will occur.

I'm sure if someone came along and said "I'm a direct decendant of jesus" they would be laughed at and accused of being mentally unstable . Even in medievil times . So unless there was evidence to back up the claims that the person claiming to be a decendant of Mary Magdelene and Jesus was available then I don't see what the problem is . Even assuming they have a direct family tree following the line from Mary Magdelene to the present day you still can't prove that jesus would be the father and after 4,000 generations I'd assume the chances of being able to identify the DNA of mary magdelene in someone in the present day may be quite difficult !

Perhaps shit was too strong a word but the plot bored me and the acting from the lead characters was weak , I think that monk bloke and Mckellen saved the film but I certainly won't go out of my way to watch it again !
