.cym campaign support

No he was just handing out stickers.

English-language websites could also use it. Many websites use .de or .ie in Germany or Ireland. It isn't a big deal or a big amount of money. It's just a nice campaign. It isn't going to do any harm.

oooh stickers! any badges and t-shirts?

do you seriously think that many engleish language websites would use it? and if you do are you willing to take a bet that it would be a very very small number?

.de and .ie both
look nicer
read nicer
type nicer
and don't sound stupid when you say them out loud

heh! maybe, just maybe it could work for the porn industry, waiT! the mans obviously a genius!

e2a - in what way is it a 'nice' capaign??? and you seriously don't think any harm like typical pisstaking will arise from it?

right, i've calmed down a bit, been reading their site and am not going to be so harsh on them for the time being :D and fair play to em for touching skin with the Brettons

Benefits of a .cym top-level domain for the Welsh
community of interest
• Will give the Welsh language and cultural community official recognition on
the web. Why should we be in the second division and not in the premier
league?
:hmm: maybe agree a bit but tis not about leagues is it
• A cheap and user friendly worldwide brand for Welshness.
so? cheap for them, cheapr for us, who?
• .cym answers a strategic need with many specialised industrial sectors where .co.uk or .com are seen as too generic and don’t answer the unique selling point of their product. These sectors include, amongst others: tourism, IT, food produce and agriculture and cultural and media industries.
so not many then, 'strategic need' wtf
• Help stimulate and brand the Welsh IT sector. It will publicises Wales as a
confident IT culture. bollocks will it
• .cym will help forge closer links with Welsh communities and ex-pats
overseas – strengthening a world-wide Welsh network which will be of
economic and cultural benefit.
maybe and if so then this would be a good thing imo
• .cym will help make Welsh a default language for internet services and will increase the use of Welsh without the need for legislation.
uh? how will it make it a default language?
• "A language will progress if its speakers can make use of electronic
technology" – Prof David Crystal. Before the launch of the .cat domain in
April 2006 around 33% of .cat registrants had no previous domain or no
prior content in Catalan. .cym will help normalise and increase the use of
Welsh online.
maybe, but imo just a few for a few months, novelty value style
• No company will be forced to use .cym – it will not infringe on any one’s choice of domain. Not all UK based sites use .uk. Companies and individuals in the UK currently use a plethora of different domains to suit their particular need - .tv, .com, .org, .aero, .eu – why not .cym?
ooh thanks! yeah see there ^ a 'plethora' in which it will get lost
• .cym is a legitimate niche for a legitimate community. It will not infringe on .uk any more than .com or .tv
wtf is legitimate about it?? guff
• There is no economic, legal or cultural reason not to support the dotCYM bid.
depends how much it costs tho really.
and there's certainly no need for the guff in the bbc report!
