Cyclists to be BANNED from using the road!

Does this contributory negligence thing apply to car users who are invloved in an accident on a journey that could have been made using public transport? ;)
:D

I don't think the Highway Code advises people to use public transport instead of cars or bikes ;)

Well, not exactly, but I'm surprised that there hasn't been a thread about this yet:

I think you will find there has been one. Some time back when the campaign first got underway. :p

On my ride to work there is one stretch of road with a cycle lane , half of that is on the pavement and the other half goes on the road . The part on the pavement either has pedestrians walking on it or bus stops planted in the way and no sign of what happens to the cycle lane . Since I consider it more dangerous to use the cycle lane over the bus lane then I will carry on using the bus lane !

Yeh, but now you'll get the cabbies aiming at ya as you bomb along and they'll blame you for being there.

Being forced to cycle in cycle lanes wouldn't be so bad if any of them were any good but the vast majority in London are badly thought-out, varyingly dangerous to both cyclists and peds quite often, let along swerving across dangerous bits of the road.

I searched for 'petition' in the transport forum and nothing came up about this

Yep, I sent an e-mail to my MP about this then. I got a reply, on nice House of Commons paper, saying my MP had passed it to the transport secretary. I'll dig it out (if I can be arsed) but the gist was, it's nothing to worry about. Yeah, right.

I did, subsequently, get a christmas card from my MP though, which was nice......

Aye this might be one of those few campaigns where it actually makes sense to lobby you're MP. First time I've written to an MP!

I use a cycle path on a pavement in Vauxhall and someone once deliberately put a breeze block on it to surprise cyclists.

Do you think they might build more cycle paths or let us use dual pavements?

Dubt it, the cycle network here is a joke; the average cycle path is around 100 metres and interconnected with some pretty dodgy pieces of road. There seems to be ABSOLUTELY NO provision for cyclists to get through any of the major roundabouts as well.

Like those massive 4-lane roundabouts, some of whose exits lead onto motorways? Yep they're bloody scary, if there's no subway underneath
