Cyclist trapped under a bus in Brixton Road

I feel ghoulish typing this but I suppose it's inevitable that we'll have a thread about it. There's a cyclist trapped under a bus on Brixton Road outside Poundland. The good news is that he's alive, and the wheels didn't go over him, just the front overhang bit. His torso is clear of the bus but the rest of him is tangled up with his bike, wedged under the bodywork. The bus wasn't going very fast when it hit him - I think it was just pulling away from the bus stop. The rider looks like a young adult male. His bike looks like a BMX.

He didn't scream at all. I hope that means he's not in pain. I just hope he can recover from his injuries. There was a very loud rasping, scraping noise as he was pushed along the road. It couldn't have been made by him or his body so I'm hoping that the bike bore the brunt of it.

oh my!! that's horrible!! I avoid cycling that section of Brixton road at all costs because it is always very congested and more often than not I've seen crazy cyclists overtaking buses without warning - Mind you, I was *this* close to been sandwiched between a bus and a taxi at the end of brixton road/kennington park yesterday morning, but fortunately, I managed to get away in one piece. Cycling on the roads is so scary sometimes!!

Ps: I can be a crazy cyclist sometimes, but i do it cos i have to survive on the road!!

It's a nasty bit of road because it's crowded - but it's usually ok because the traffic is going so slowly.

I almost got knocked off my bike by a car on Railton road a couple of days back - I stopped (due to a car in front of me) but he didn't until he'd hit my back wheel and practically knocked me off.

Yeah, Atlantic Road / Railton Road is not great for cycling. Despite a pedestrian crossing, people just walk out in front of you on Atlantic. Railton is particularly bad with cars parked on both sides, plus being used by buses as well.

That stretch of Brixton Road is really a bus station cunningly disguised as a high street. Not good for anybody. But what can you do? The buses all need to be there to link up with the end of the Victoria Line.

If you're coming from east Brixton use Railton/Atlantic Rd to avoid and join Brixton Rd at M&S.

If you're coming from west Brixton use the Ferndale Rd cut-through.

If you're coming straight down Brixton Hill get good medical insurance.

Unfortunately, if you're coming from Brixton High Street itself, there's no alternative!
