Cycling:another great day at the office for British riders

Ok, ok SuperCav then - I forgot myself in all the excitement.

Did you check that link and watch the video? On the replay of the sprint from the helicopter his acceleration is incredible, he seems to gain about 20 metres in 1 second:eek:. Fuck knows how fast he'd be if he was on drugs...

The cycling just keeps getting better & better at the moment..... am even more excited by "Supercav" on the road, than the recent track champs if possible

Nice build btw Sigmand....lol at the fact you bought another Pomp...how many is that now

Is Cav doing the TdF this year, or is he concentrating on the Olympics like Wiggins? I'd love to see him batter McEwan, Pettachi et al on just one stage.

Well he battered McEwan, Weylandt and a bunch of other top sprinters for the last two days, that'll do for now. He's riding the Giro, I wouldn't bet against him taking a stage or two there, esp as Petacchi and the other 'top sprinters' will be under far greater scrutiny as far as dooping goes (nudge nudge).

I've not kept an eye on the news but has Cav signed for a team for the TDF? Is his current team even going?

SuperCav wins again!!!

Cavendish wins the Scheldeprijs Vlaanderen for the second year in a row !!!(this was his first ever pro win last season).

1 Mark Cavendish (GBr) Team High Road 4.59.15 (41.503 km/h)
2 Tom Boonen (Bel) Quick Step
3 Robbie McEwen (Aus) Silence - Lotto
4 Erik Zabel (Ger) Team Milram

Whats funniest of all is that Boonen raised his arms to celebrate the win only for Cav to zoom under his armpit and take the line - showboating twat!:D

choose the 'laatste kilometer' link.

Excellent. He's just knocked 9 green jerseys off the top of the podium there, plus Boonen. I think he could well be the first world class British road cyclist outside of time trials that I can remember (male that is, Nicole Cooke obviously qualifies).

Fucking Hell!!!!!!!!!!

Cavendish wins stage 4 of the 2008 Giro d'Italia, his first ever win in a grand tour.

I'm not suprised, it had to happen the way things were going, buts its an absolutely fucking incredible achievement for a 22 year old, a stage win against such well prepared *ahem* and experienced sprinting opponents. I only wish Petacchi (the cheat) was in the race so that SuperCav could have done him too.

:D

Benatti described Cav as the quickest in the world over the last 50 meters. Sadly I only get to see him on the road once a year in the TdF, but what kind of sprinter is he? Is a led-out man like Zabel, a come-from-nowhere like McEwan, or a dominate the entire road monster like Cippo was?

He is very much in the Cipo / Pettachi mould. If the run in is straight for at least 300m then essentially nobody else on the planet has a prayer at beating Cavendish. What Bennati has been saying about him isn't news in the pro peloton, they all knew last year he's the quickest.

High Road have another really gifted young sprinter - Ciolek - but so far he's not had a look in cos of Cavendish. Cav is bound to get a mega money offer from another team next season.

Had to bump this in order to big up Team GB's exploits at the Manchester World Cup this weekend. Fantastic performances all round, 15 out of 18 events won  Great riding as usual by Vicky P who won her 3 events but was rivalled for star status by Lizzie Armitstead (who helped Nicole Cooke win the world RR this year). She won the points race, scratch race and the team pursuit. Good racing by the younger team members as well, some new faces doing really well  And no Chris Hoy in the team. Looking good for the rest of 2008 and 2009, considering that many riders have not been training 100% after the Olympics!

I searched all over to find a relevant thread. With all the Olympic excitement, and all the velodrome tickets selling out so damn quick, I thought a few more people would have been watching.

Elizabeth Armistead was WOW! in talent and in person. Your girl Victoria did her stuff too.

Chris Hoy did a great job on the punditry.

I really hate the Sky suits.

And no Chris Hoy in the team.

No Rebecca Romero either, so that was 4 gold medals from Beijing missing.

I just hope that our all-conquering exploits on the track along with Cooke and Cav's command of the road might A) lead to more exposure of cycling in the media (ITV take note), and B) impel more Brits to get on their bikes. It's such a great sport to do and watch.

Thread boosted due to excitement

HET WORLDCAMPION! CAMPIONE DEL MONDO! CHAMPION MONDIALE! WORLD CHAMPION!!!

First pro win to World Champion in five seasons. Hats of to the Cav!!!!!!!

Not just Cav. Two bronzes, two silvers, and another brilliant gold in the junior women's race from Lucy Garner. Pretty much the most amazing world championships for the Brits EVER.
