Cycle to work

be interested to know how much a Nexus service costs, if you find out. I've probably done 1500 miles on mine and had no idea it needs servicing.

I bought mine from Evans (I had no choice) and they did a minor service after 6 weeks or so FoC - as gentlegreen says it was truing and tightening anything that had worked loose - you could do it yourself imho but as it's free then make use of it.

Brixton Cycles are asking £65 + parts for a 'full service' or £125 + parts for a 'senior service'. The full one apparently includes stripping and regreasing hubs so that's what I'm having done - this is after 5000 miles so fair enough - I service my car every 3000 miles :D

Oh, I had my moneys worth of free after-sales tweaking but I'm not sure I want Evans to do a hub service. I've no idea how far I've been on it, probably not 5,000 miles but quite a few so sixty five quid isn't bad and BC were fine last time I went there (I've had problems with them in the past) so maybe I'll take it there. thanks.

i'm not sure the senior service would be inclusive of a nexus strip down- that may be extra, don't quote me on that but a nexus is a far more complicated beast than your average cup and cone system. lolworthy nexus trivia: early runs used a kind of carbon grease very sensitive to heat which would break down and go sticky if it got hot- sticking the pawls down. this is not a good idea next to a hub brake heatsink
