Cycle helmet recommendations

Cheers. Will make sure it's got BS kite, just because :o

If there's no difference, how do people get away with charging £120 for a helmet?

Same reason people get away with selling £150 sunglasses that do the same job as a £3.99 pair - marketing hype and styling.

The Lidl helmet actually passes the tougher TuV standard btw (tougher than CE).

True, didn't think of it like that.

I need to get one in the next couple of days really... the foam bit on mine is cracked, and doesn't look like lidl have any bike stuff coming up, so happy to stump up at least £25 :)

Bumping an old thread

My wife and I need to buy a good, well fitting helmet for riding Segway. Because we live in Spain, Andalucia specifically, it also needs to be cool to wear. We, of course, would also like them to look good, after all if they look rubbish, and are hot, we are less likely to want to wear them. (I did manage to fall off the Segway yesterday when I decided to see how sharply, and fast, I could turn going backwards. It's quite quick, till it throws you off :D:thumbs:)

They still have Segways ? :hmm:

"cool" = expensive
The ones that look "good" and coincidentally look like they're actually of real value in the case of an accident are also the least "cool".

Though on a Segway you surely aren't exerting yourself anyway or going at any speed.

For cool read not hot and sweaty.

It's not about the speed always. It's also about what you hit your head on when you fall off while racing on them. Yesterday I very nearly hit my head on a concrete cube. I've previously had a fractured skull, and some parts of my face stuck back after various accidents. Now I want to err on the side of caution.

That's what I meant by "cool".
I have a decent quality Bell, but in the summer when I make an effort I'll get sweaty enough to take it off on the way home from work.
But hot country plus less exertion would probably make it work most of the time.

If you really think you're going to hit your head that hard, perhaps you should go for a mountaineering helmet for when the weather is cool enough.

The one time my helmet was used in anger, it didn't prevent concussion.
That was when my bicycle fork collapsed - fortunately only at about 8MPH.

I don't know if there are helmets that could actually absorb the energy sufficiently to prevent the brain bashing on the inside of the skull ... my motorcycle helmet was also just polystyrene foam.

Probably changed a trip to itu to just a concussion though.
People like you are why their is a list for organs :p

The Aldi one I had didn't save me from 15mins of unconsciousness and two weeks off work with concussion, but I imagine it'd have been a lot worse without it. I did hit Tarmac at around 20mph though. Polystyrene split at the opposite side to the point of impact. From what I can work out (I remember nothing) I kind of went to one side and rolled as I went over the front, and think it was the side of my head hitting the ground (grazing/cuts to right elbow and top of shoulder, zip broken on the back pocket of my rucksack).

I think it's a Met one I have now, was reduced to 30 something from about 70, lighter and more comfortable than the old lid.

It's a lot that but not entirely. I've got a very lightweight helmet that was in a clearance sale. It's incredibly comfortable and easy to fit well. But you can get a perfectly good one cheaply.

Oops didn't see what old news he thread was.
