CSS - Cansei De Ser Sexy

sonik

a boBBob
Anyone else heard this album? it's blinding, hasn't been out of the CD player or off the old i-Pod since it came out. Alala is the best track imo.

Think they are playing at the Scala soon, going to try and make it for sure.

Here's a review of the album....
From Sao Paulo, Brazil comes CSS (5 women and one man), the first south American band Sub Pop has foisted upon the global marketplace. 'Cansei De Ser Sexy', Portuguese for 'tired of being sexy,' is improbably, unbelievably and nearly eponymously their debut. It is a thick, pulsating thing full of haphazard synths ('Alala') and a come-on of call and response that tears down any attempt at posturing ('Art Bitch', 'Patins'). it's a sexy mix of esg, the early Rough Trade label releases, Bush Tetras, Kraftwerk, Peaches, 99 Records and The Breeders. It's energetic, has buckets of attitude and sits heads and shoulders above the competition.

Alalala is already burned to CD and ready to be unleashed at an Offline soon!
Heck, I may even go crazy and play it at Friday's HDIFTBL!

(Will that be enough to tempt Sonik The Hermit out?)

Ha ha...nope Sonik The Hermit will be in Hawaii

I just this second put that song on, randomly. It's a corker, good album too. I only heard of them through their links with Diplo, and I'm glad I did.

Surprisingly I first came across them a month or so ago when I saw their video on E4 (that late morning/early afternoon 'uninterrupted' music show) (song = "Let's Make Love and Listen to Death From Above").

I rarely get so interested in a band so fast - checked out their myspace and website etc.

Started to hear them more often and noticed that they are due in the UK for various dates over November and December.

I also saw them on TV (MTV2) and decided to have a punt on the album, and I think it's very good indeed .... potty-mouthed and it takes the piss out of Paris Hilton, so it's got to be cool.

I would like to make the Scala show, but retro-synth-punk-pop is one of the areas on which the missus and I disagree in our musical tastes.

Got tickets for this a while back. I'm in the same boat as Teejay; someone mentioned them about a month or two ago, checked them out and loved them from the first riff.

i think i played some CSS at offline last month to total apathy as well.

*shakes fist*

I've just ordered this so it better be good or there will be some hermit hunting going on.

It isn't necessarily that it makes me dance like a monster - it is more that something goes "thwunk" inside my brain. :)

(LOVEFOXXX's accent for a start, what she does to/with the english language - kind of arouses/disturbs/mashes up some obscure part of my cognitive system)

Yeah, but you've got to put in the moves too if you want your audience to get down with you!

Just got it in the post and am about half-way through the album.

It's a bit bloody good, isn't it? :)

Yeah they're cool, I was really lucky and saw them at CMJ for free last week in a tiny venue, it was ace. I now have maybe a slight crush on the lead singer :o
