Crumbling Teeth

Another tooth, on the other side, has just crumbled, so I no longer think I can ignore this! :(

I have to find a dentist and make an appointment to go and be terrified.

Maybe I should put this crumbling teeth thing on the Getting Older thread?

Well, it turns out to be osteoporosis! But I have lost 4 teeth since this thread. 3 were pulled out, and a fourth one crumbled recently. I can't believe that this diagnosis never came before, despite me being referred to a dental hospital.

I suppose I am sort of glad to find out that it is not simply neglect, or fear of dentists, because it did seem a tad unfair that I was having to have teeth pulled out when others got away with just a good clean and a filling or two.

But a diagnosis of osteoporosis is not a good thing, particularly after so many years of suffering the symptoms, because it's a bit late to start preventative treatment. And I don't just mean crumbling teeth...

Yesterday, a bit of one of my teeth just fell out! It was mostly filling, but there was certainly a bit of tooth attached, and I now have a hole in one of my teeth, near the gum!

I am currently too scared to brush my teeth, in case more falls out (lucky I am not at work, really)

This only matters because I am totally and absolutely and completely terrified of dentists!

WTF am I going to do?

*sob*

I, too have crumbly teeth.
You know those dreams you get where your teeth crumble. Well, for me, it wasnt a dream.
I think I even broke a tooth, chewing on a bit of broken tooth.
The dentist is the best bet, but regular salt swills, if a twinge of pain appears, helps loads.
I'm scared of dentists too.

I want to change my dentist. The one in Cambridge was kind of used to me (and it probably said something on my record like "completely neurotic fool - sedate") and I managed to go every time. I even had a cap or a crown or something or other (I can't tell the difference).

But the chap I have been going to since I moved to London (okay, the chap I have been to twice since I moved to London, and not for several years) doesn't have any patience at all, and was quite threatening and just got impatient when I got upset. I just can't go there again. I can't, I can't, I can't!

So, yeah, I shall probably lose all my teeth at some stage before I die.

If anyone can recommend a dentist in South or Central London who takes new patients and knows how to deal with neurotic fools who need sedation, please let me know!

if you ring the nhs dental line, they may be able to put you intouch with a community dentist, they are much better for dentophobes.
I think you need a GP referral, though, but I use one of these, and they are very patient and kind. I have had two fillings and a clean, just three out and one filling to go, then I am dentisted for 6mths

I was VERY scared of the dentist till I discovered Intravenous Sedation

now I actually look forward to it.

I remember nothing at all of the work done and am fucked for a day after. it's lovely

I'm gonna ask for that, I see a surgeon on friday, as I need one wisdom tooth, and two abscessed molars whiping out.
General anseathetic can go and fuck off, cos unline benzo injection, you feel fucking groggy afterwards. I dont even know if they do generals anymore on teeth.

*has bad memories of gas, and wetting self in dentists chair, and I had visited the loo*

Absolfuckinglutely!

''Count backwards from 10 to 0 for me please...''
''10,9,8,7......''

''How was that...all done!''
''Err..what...?'' *wipes dribble from chin*

the worst thing about the dentist is that they always have really attractive lady assistants, and i hate them seeing my gubbing yellow fag stained manky wonky teeth.:(

oh,and it hurts like fuck as well.

Im scared of dental work, but it never hurts anywhere near as bad as toothache.

wy is it too late?
you can take supplements, surely its never too late, sorry to hear of your bad teeth.
mine crumbled, cos I inherited shitty teeth of both sides of family, and I was a raging speedfreak for a few years.
I am 42, and took supplements, cos your teeth and bones will love you for it.
I dont think you have to start young. Young persons bones are more rubbery, but older persons bones can be fortified, I would have thought.

It's a bit late because I have already lost four teeth. It's possible that, if I was diagnosed sooner, I may not have lost so many, if any. (You did notice that this thread was two years old? :D)

I am taking some medication, but the leaflet with it says that it clashes with the other medication I have to take for my thryoid problems, so it's all a bit difficult right now, innit.

Oh, and I have to have more tests next week, too.

only after my third post.
I am always responding to posts that are years old, I responded to a 2005 one the other day. I never think to check the date.
Aww, sorry to hear you lost 4 teeth though and you have thyroud problems.
I hope you get some good results and good treatment.
You could maybe ask about calcium supplements?

I am taking calcium supplements. Well, calcium and vitamin D, I think. Anyway, some medicine or other.

The leaflet with it says that it doesn't go well with thyroxine, though, which is a bit unfortunate, since I am also taking that!

I have just finished crunching one of the tablets, and it feels like it is coating my teeth (well, what is left of them!) with calcium :D
