I was just on my way to Waitrose and my wife pointed out a poster about Croydons summer music festival. It's just at the end of my road so it's always worth a look. Last year it was the Proclaimers and Dreadzone so I couldn't really be arsed.

This years poster says the Damned are playing, Cpt Sensible and all.

That can't be right can it?

There is also the god awful The Lightning Seeds, but don't give up just yet because Martha Reeves and The Vandellas will be there. WTF? this might even be OK. 10 minute walk up the street to free music. No camping, no mud.

If the Damned were playing in my back garden, I'd draw the curtains. And put in earplugs. And call the police.

I quite like The Lightening Seeds - I'm going to go to this I think...

Hmmm, might well go to this. Not far from me.

I went last year, and it pissed down all day, but it was worth getting wet to see Candy Staton.

I didn't bother staying for the Proclaimers. Just saw Kanda Bongo Man, Dreadzone and Candy Staton, and I just caught the end of El Sueno's band on the Green Dragon stage. Wonder if he's playing again this year?

I heard the Proclaimers from my house. I was thinking about taking my daughter up but the rain was a bit too much.

Do you know what time the Damned are on? I don't think I have ever been to one of the Saturday dos.

No, I would guess about 4-5ish judging by their position in the line up.

Saw the Damned last month at Shepherd's Bush Empire and they were great, not sure if they'll be quite as good at Croydon festival.

Did they play the old stuff or was it all Eloise?

Quite a lot of old stuff, finished with 'Smash it up', I'm not a great damned fan though so wasn't familiar with a lot of it but it was still great

    Bugger- I'm away this weekend.

I went to see The Beat play at something free in Croydon years ago- must have been a previous incarnation of this.

  23. Throbbing Angel

Throbbing Angel it's a very pretty colour this ambulance, isn't it

Last time I saw The Damned (5 yrs back?), sensible strode on and said something like
"Good evening. We've written loads of new songs"
    grumble from audience
"And we're not gonna fucking play any of them!"
crowd goes wild as they start cranking out Neat Neat Neat :)

    Awesome!!

I only found out about this on Sunday and I have just realised that I made plans to go elsewhere. I am now going to have to make some difficult phonecalls and change those plans.

I'm going for sure. I guess it will be the first gig my daughter ever goes to. Shame it couldn't be anything cooler.

I will have to prime her with Damned songs. I have already taught her Neat Neat Neat (which she seems to like).
