Crossing picket lines - is it ever ok?

Still waiting to find out if there's any comeback on this. Looking unlikely for the time being. Not sure what the UCU turnout was (it's historically quite low here but rising) and we had a small bunch of us who refused to cross picket lines.

now that the word 'respect' has been devalued by over-association with knife crime and, separately, Galloway, I'm not sure what the best word is, but I guess you know what I'm getting at :)

Saw pickets outside a couple of colleges yesterday.

Thanks. Not encouraging figures coming back about the UCU participation in my department.

The key now is going to be getting the GMB and other support unions onside for action in the autumn. We hate being put in this position. But seeing as the final decision is likely to rest with the GMB FTOs, as we don't have such things as an elected FE committee, I'm not confident. UNISON negotiators seem to be firmly of the "don't rock the boat" type as well.

GMB doesn't have a further education section at all - they are part of the public services section - but they do have an elected committee who will ensure that the ftos don't take such decisions without their involvement!
