Don't try and paint those 'finger-waggers' as some kind of overbearing ruling class though. Pitted against some of the biggest corporations in the world (and their contempt for people's health) they are the underdog by some distance. I always root for the underdog :p

That can be exactly what some of them are striving to be tho & much of their advice can be so grossly oversimplified (eg, 5-a-day) as to be virtually usless & belies the assumption that the average person is such an utter moron about health matters that they will lap-up any old shite without direct intervention from those who "know what's good for them."

Some indeed have a foot firmly in both camps - eg those pushing their own dietary or mass-market food solutions, or preying on media panics to get their particular message across. Whilst Sir John Boyd Orr, one of the leading lights in the history of modern public health & nutrition was also pivotal to the other side in his role on the committee that paved the way for the modern industrialised food production & distribution system & post-war policy by taking overall responsability away from locally-based suppliers/distribution/manufacturing & handing over virtually all aspects of this to the big national/international corps.

I love crisps and would love nothing more than to eat McCoys Salt n Vinegar and a pkt of Walkers Worcester Sauce everyday...but I can't cos Im always on a diet. So instead I eat french fries, snaps, baked etc...I even buy weight watcher crisps...the cheese curls are not that bad. I also love munching on ready salted chipstix...and spicey transformer snax...
