Cricket on Five/1st Test

Bowling has always been a problem for Sri Lanka, I know Murali can and will perform but I was a bit disappointed with vaas, though having said that I think he is 32, so not exactly young anymore.

I agree we need to see Malinga, our bowling attack has to be beefed up if we want to perform better in the second test, and yes I am sure england will not be so nice to us in the field, and if more of your first choice bowlers come along then we wont be able to post up scores like that on our second innings .. though Jayasuria is coming back apparently so who knows ;)

An English finger spinner who doesn't bat will struggle to keep his place as you say, unless he's genius like Murali. Monty is still behind Gilo (even purely as a bowler, though Monty is still young and can develop the arm ball given time) for me and Gilo should be in the side when fit. Monty did okay really in swing-friendly conditions, if the seamers weren't beating the bat every over he'd have bowled more any maybe taken more wickets.

He's always the last to leave practice apparantly and works bloody hard on his fielding and batting, I really like him and hope he develops.

I'd drop Mahmood too for GBH.

It'll be great to see Sanath back, a hundred times the player Mubarak is (not his fault of course). Maybe drop Kapugedera and stick Kulasekara up the order to incorporate Malinga. Whatever, someone has to make way as Malinga is too talented to be left upstairs brewing the Dilmah.

Yes, one would struggle to find a chanceless Trescothick knock, but he's aggressive, and I've no doubt he will score ten thousand Test runs before he hangs up his bat. Great platform here, but so often in the past the start has been thrown away, 500 would be nice for a change.
I ask you Flashman, why would you put him in the same class as Border,Waugh or Gavaskar. What has he done that sets him above the rest.A fine batsman but 10,000 runs????He has not got the time or the head for it

I'm not putting him in that class, that doesn't mean he won't get to ten thousand though with the amount of cricket played.

He's what, 30 now? In five years he's scored 5608 Test runs at 46. It's quite plausable that he'll play another five years or more, even missing the odd series.

Honestly I think he'll piss it snowy.

Vaughan had a purple patch, quite an anomaly looking at his career before and after that golden period. Ponting and Dravid haven't had problems maintaining their average through captainship, neither did Waugh.

It looks like Fred and Strauss are ahead of Tres now anyway regards that job, I'm glad as I didn't rate Tres in the role.

E2a: Ahh, Alex got there afore me.
