Crap Job Corner

I sized and packed tulip bulbs for a summer once. It wasn't that bad but the people working with hyacinths used to run screaming into the shower as they itch like a bastard apparently.

yes they do, it's really horrible

I don't understand why he can't say what brand of rice it was? Is it an official secret? Unless what you are saying is untrue - why wouldn't you name and shame?

Not done any jobs quite as bad as many of these. Only months upon months, year upon year of really really boring jobs. Filing, filing, filing, filing... stuffing envelopes, envelopes, envelopes... data inputing, inputting, inputting.

Probably the worst was working in a convienience store. That was shit. Good cameraderie, but utterly shit.

* Banana picking (on a kibbutz). 50 kilos of fucking bananas landing on your shoulder then walk with it through 50m of thick undergrowth in 40 degrees.

* Demolition work on an urban renewal scheme. Those old lavs really minged when you set about em with a sledgehammer.

* Cutting the edges off just-moulded plastic baths with a circular saw. Rather monotonous, but I managed to get so far ahead of the moulder I only worked 20 mins in an hour. The good old days of British industry, hehe.

Luckily I seem to have avoided all the animals and guts type jobs

In Australia I worked for a kind of general purpose store. The store itself was on a floor above the car park, but at the stairs leading up to the store they kept all their garden tables and chairs on show.

My job was to sit there and guard these tables and chairs from invisible thieves. All fucking day long. Quite possibly the most pointless, mind-numbingly tedious job ever.

It drove me mad in less than 3 days and I eventually got the sack for not turning up to work after a hefty weekend jolly. Couldn't have been more pleased to get the sack! :)

Cleaning bricks so they could be recycled.

I wouldn't have minded so much but I was sitting on my own with a pile of bricks and a chisel and hammer. No human contact at all. :(

fucking hell

worst job ive ever had was working in this grotty local pub. the landlord accused me of nicking a tenner out of the till (which i didnt) and not being able to count (which is bollocks, i have an a-level in statistics mathematics, which aint the easiest thing in the world). he also had a go at me when i called him "mate".

i told him to fuck off after one day, the cunt.

compared to some of the stuff on here thats not half bad is it though i suppose.

Standing on a recycling conveyor belt sorting out rancid detritus while stood in 18 inches of rain water; I caught ringworm from it too :(

my brother did (potato picking), he didn't even last one day, just left at lunchtime

Is there something particularly shit about that job? I did fruit picking in the school holidays once, and whilst it was undoubtly not exciting, it was tolerable, and because it was piece work, there was no pressure. 12 quid a day seemed a lot of money when I was 17!

I would imagine potato picking would be harder work though.

I managed a week in a record store warehouse; my job was to put LPs onto a conveyor belt (this was so a magical machine could put a price tag on them!).

The worst part was that the LP in question played all day, every day. It was Wings. There is nothing more to say.

Working as "drain operative" - bit like dyna-rod only there was no rods, just rubber gloves and a hose pipe. Sticking my hands down sewers in the middle of winter to dislodge turds, nappies and sanitry towels.

Working as a labourer on a building site. Something I have done before but this time I had to dig a 3 foot deep trench some 100 feet long by hand as they couldn't get the JCB in.

Working as a dish washer and tatie peeler in portsmouth.

Glass collecting in a very busy night club

Worked in a dairy for a bit swilling out cow shit, wasn't so bad just horrible hours and split shifts. 4am to 10am and then 3pm to 9pm.
