rather than identifying a specific technology involved i would have though understanding the principles of sound as compressed air the used of a microphone as a converter and the use of electisity in the body

Umm, she's a schoolkid. She's been taught to a syllabus. This question didn't come out of nowhere. She's being tested on something very specific that they have been taught and you can only guess at.

Tell her to go through her notes, or get them from another kid who was paying attention.
