crafty types - what projects have you got on the go?

when you make marmalade, does it have to be done in big batches?

I dunno - I hope not... I just saw some in the market and bought about 5.. I was just figuring I could halve sugar amounts etc...

Marmalade! I need to make some - have I missed that tiny window of seville oranges, Eme?

It is short, but there were plenty on the stall (it was Borough market - Thursday) I imagine there'll be some next week right? [imagines a web cam set up watching the stall, something akin to Spring Watch :) ]

....though i manged to do 12 (12 what i dont know)

hehe this is what it feels like to me trying to follow a crochet pattern -
'insert hook into loop x' which loop? there are loads of the buggers! :)

I got a couture sewing techniques book for christmas, and I don't understand what half the words mean, let alone be able to do them  :D

something to aspire to I think.

*feels a bit lost in the crafty crowd*

I don't really know where to start with making my own cards. What do I need? Do I need to design a pattern? Is there anything I need to think about? Bearing in my mind I am genuinely terrible at drawing, so that's out.

the banksy book i got for christmas shows you how to make stencils.

i'm thinking of doing one under my boss's window.

lol @ foo :D

missfran, I don't really know how to go about making cards. my approach would probably be cutting up bits of stuff and sticking them to the card :o

make a stencil

A stencil! Of course! You see, I would never of thought of that but now you say it, it's obvious. I R learner.

A very simple one of a heart, maybe. And I have lots of red paint. I could do a heart in one colour, let the paint dry, then do another heart next to it or overlapping it in a slightly different shade of red.

I'm going to write on the back of the card "Cards by Missfran Inc." so they not it's not just a crappy card, it's home-made :D

Yay!

My friend's mum stencilled her kitchen beautifully by making dragonflies and things and then, using sponges, dabbled different colours over them. Because it was a sponge it wasn't opaque and she could add other colours too, plus play around with the depth of paint cover if that makes sense???

She was very arty though so I'd have a practise with that method - I tried one and was too heavy handed - hers looked airbrushed!

A sponge! Yes. That will make a nicer effect. It will also dry quicker. Luckily I live 30 seconds from an arts 'n crafts shop so I can pick one up easily.

Ooooh! This thread has inspired me to crochet baby blankets for my two brand-new, twin girl, nearly-nieces! They are so cute!

yay for inspiration and yay for babies

I think we'll definitely need pics of our achievements on this thread :)

up in the loft somewhere i've got some wee cardis unix knitted for my boy. 19 years ago! :)

she's pretty handy with a knitting needle and a sewing machine that one. and not always in a smutty way.

I'm not in the least bit crafty, I can't even knit (so what my friend was thinking when she bought me a 'knit your dog a coat' kit, I have no idea). :(

And I have to do hems etc by hand as I don't know how to use a sewing machine. :(

*Leaves thread, head down in shame*
