Cracker

Ah, I just had a look on the forums, apparently they aren't going to have Cracker because it's coming out on DVD almost immediately after.

Hmm... Some other torrent place must have it...

That's prolly it, this cracker had the 'war on terror' as the backdrop. (Although hmm, how could Aussie watch it first?)

Very dissapointing. Just found the whole thing so predictable and not very convincing either. It felt like a one off for the sake of it. The iron is too cold now-Cracker was great in its day. Best leave it there I reckon.

It must be the one they advertised as being released next monday... talk about instant gratification.

Very strange. It's out on DVD early next month. The review I read said it was designed for DVD - there's a letter Fitz gets which you can read only if you can freeze the image. Hmmm ...

I watched it but missed a part.

How did it jump from there being 100 possible suspects to Fitz interviewing the copper?

It also confused me at the start that they used the copper out of Shameless.

Other than that it was acceptable Sunday night telly.

I wondered how Fitz got to be interviewing the copper, too, and I watched the whole thing. I think we were just supposed to assume it's cos he's really clever, like.
Still, enjoyed it a lot, nonetheless.

The copper behaved suspiciously. He avoided the widow's gaze and then even walked a long way around to avoid the group, Fitz noticed this. Then when Fitz was doing his sociological "30,000 down to 120 short-brown hair uniform" bit the chap was standing outside looking worried. Definately worth a little interogation, then the big brain on rye did the rest...

I did quite enjoy it but do feel that it was not up to the standard of the first 3 series - this is probably partly due to the fact that the supporting cast is not as good (no Beck, Bilborough, Panhandle etc). Also felt that there was more scenes of the murderer and his flashbacks and a lot less of Fitz himself.

I watched Cracker - Behind the Scenes which followed on ITV3.

A few points to mention:

1) Coltraine talked about how embarressed he felt making his awful father of the bride speech and said "but of course, you have seen it". Well actually no, they must have cut it out because it wasn't in it.

2) Coltraine did not rule out the possibility of more. He said "never say never" and if McGovern came up with 6 new scripts, he would start filming tomorrow.

3) Also interesting to find out that when McGovern wrote that one of the characters from an earlier series had a stammer, this was based on his own experience as he also had a stammer when he was younger.

BTW Does anyone know why it's called Cracker?

Because he cracks the cases?maybe.

Disapointed with last nights ,the elimination from 10000000 to 100 was a bit cornball to be honest.

As has already been said, great in its day, leave it there.

H:)

Agreed, a 2-hour excuse for McGovern to air his views on American foreign policy.
Agreed.

There was some enjoyable 'build up of tension' type stuff, but it was spoiled by the above. Hasn't there already been one about a messed-up soldier?

I was a little disappointed but I'm still interested enough in the character and McGovern's writing to be broadly in favour of a new series. It could have done with being split into two 90 minute episodes over consecutive nights (like ITV do with other dramas). That way, the supporting cast could have been fleshed out a bit more and Fitz's discovery of "who did it" could have been a little less rushed.

Agreed Grandma ! No electricity to it at all. Thought the whole idea of an ex- Northern Ireland soldier deciding to kill Americans just because his experience had been overshadowed by 9/11 etc. as exceptionally weak for Jimmy McGovern. Expected a big confrontation between Fitz & the arsehole DI who went around bollocking everyone, but it never happened. lots of things seem to happen too conveniently. Earlier episodes set a very high standard mind.

I thought he was mostly angry at the hypocrisy of the situation – how Americans helped fund the IRA's terrorism against Britain but then launching a massive war on terror as soon as they suffered it themselves.

I watched a couple of Cracker repeats on one of the ITV digital channels a while ago. They haven't aged well. Fitz's 'deductions' aren't very convincing and usually contain more than their fair share of psychobabble.

It was fucking shite. The only redeeming thing about it was that the minging ginger bird wasn't in it.

i liked it

wasnt as gripping as some (the liverpol one springs to mind) but it was much better than a lot of the shite on TV at the moment

Exactly what the Guardian said today

Interesting.

They also agreed with me completely about that ADF thing about Gaddafi a few weeks ago. Maybe I am becoming old, boring and predictable. :o

I bet you're a real hit with the ladies, Onket!

I liked it. I hope it comes back for a few more episodes.
And I wish they could bring Jimmy Beck back from the dead. :( I loved him.

~It was made this time last year Mc Govern at the time assumed it would be going out in January or February. See here for interview. He alsolaims he wrote it in return for Granada promising to sponsor the Hillsborough Memorial Golf Tornament.

Cheers, tim.

Watched it this evening.

Quite liked it, really. ALthough the old team wasn't there, isn't that quite good in some ways? Sometimes I think TV shows make a big mistake when they make a comeback and try to resurrect the entire old cast - the biggest, most catastrophic instance of this was in Red Dwarf where they tried to bring back the 'whole red dwarf crew' in series 8.

I thought it was quite good that he had been away 7 years and was coming back to a new, changed style of police station, no smoking etc.

Perhaps a tad unsubtle in its political flavour at times, but otherwise up to the standards of the old ones. IMVHO.
