Yes - THE Nicola Barker from Brixton. I believe she has a doppelganger who is trying to oust her as THE Nicola Barker by writing books or something ;)

Outrageous. In fact it transpires that THAT Nicola Barker lives in Hackney.

Whoo!

I'm going to leave it open for a couple of days whilst I set things up. Hopefully we might get a couple more signups in the mean time.

I'm also going to setup a website that anyone can edit to run in paralell to the mailing list, where people can record usefull information (contact details, usefull links, suppliers, experiences etc).

Hooray. BTW was it one of you I saw putting up plastic flowers on the barbed wire over your gate on Saturday? I was going to stop to say hello but had a bad sore throat so didn't want to make it worse.

Have we got a current policeman on it?

I love the barbed wire with the plastic flowers. Another, longer term solution would be to grow some roses with really vicious thorns. Mrs Magpie's yer expert there.

Edit: Maybe we should all email Gerry O'Neill, the town centre community cop, and request the he puts his name to this. Whyever not?

Good idea - what's his address? Probably very useful for guys like him since it potentially provides them with fast local intelligence.

Incidentally I was delighted to step out of my flat the other day to find a used condom on the street outside. Well at least somebody's using a condom I suppose...

I sent this to someone I know at The Ritzy. Hopefully, someone there will get involved...
Welcome. :)

I suspect the Ritzy are being a bit evasive because they don't want to have to spend any money. I would love to be proved wrong.

One possiable use for the list is to record incedents i.e. if anyone ahs any trouble in their area they can mail the list (maybe marked INCEDENT) just to put it on the record. That's got to be useful for the police to spot patterns.

I think they are a bit wary because its electronic so there's an automatic paper trail that could be used against them in some way. If that is the case maybe we should suggest joining up, but not posting? A sort of observer status.

That would be perfectly reasonable. They can always contact people individually if they want to chase up specific incidents.

I would agree with the idea of observing. They seem to read threads on here as they have been brilliant since memespring complained about their reaction on the earlier crack thread. Obserrving a maling list where people are reporting patterns of behaviour would mean they have instant intelligence.

another neighbourhood policeman

PC John O'Connell attended a recent Brixton Area Forum meeting, and seemed to be in some way to be responsible for neighbourhood policing in central Brixton. Can anyone shed light on his role ?

If anyone has anything that they think the police should know but they don't know how to get it there, either post it here or PM me and I'll fiind a home for it.

Pledge = Success

Pledge = Success :) and its currently running at 6 over target.

I'm going to setup the mailing list once everyone has mailed or PM'ed me their email addresses. PledgeBank arent able to give me the addresses of the pledgers directly for privacy reasons, so if you want to join the list you do need to mail me.

The pledge is open untill 11th so still plenty more time for people to sign up.

Some familiar names on there -- the mailshot seems to have helped.

And Rachel Heywood! Doesn't she count as a member of the royal family?

In fact a few politicans there. None of them actually local residents, AFAIK.
Not suggesting a League of Gentlemen type scenario, only that lots of good people may well have thought 'That's not my immediate area', whereas the politicians aren't bothered by that.

Its good to see the council taking an interest it should get some good conversations going between the elected and the electee's - although I do think the list is going to work best if the bulk of the members are normal members of the public.

I hope people from outside central brixton do feel they can signup. As far as I can work out the only chance at stopping the displacement effect is to have input from all over town.
