Covers Albums..

you know, where lots of people cover songs by the same artist.

these used to be great - early ones like the Kurt Weill album (with Tom Waits), The Johnny Cash one Til Things Are Brighter (which i'd love to own again)

I may well be able to "source" one of those for you....keep you posted. ;)

I had the Walt Disney covers , which was in the same series as the Kurt Weill one, which has Public Enemy singing 'Who's afraid of the big bad wolf'. I also had an entire album of cover versions of Tom's Diner.

As an aside the other day I heard some band doing very guitary/"rocky" versions of early Cure songs.. anyone got any idea who that may be.. ?

i have psychic tv doing 'set the controls for the heart of the sun' off a pink floyd tribute. iirc, no-one else on the album was any good though.

i also have the young gods doing the songs of kurt weill.

'Los Punkrockers' cover the whole of Never mind the bollocks. Truly awful, the singers accent has to be heard to be believed, "gott safe the queen, an ze fasciss rrrrreigime"

There's an electro covers album of Iron Maiden songs knocking about somewhere. I like Balanescu Quartet's covers of Kraftwerk.

And Sinead O'Connor's sublime "Someday My Prints Will Come"

Not forgetting the mighty Liabach's Queen (One world, one vision was particularly scaring) Rolling Stones and Beatles covers.

Oh yes ... their "Across the Universe" is transcendental and ecstatic

It's only an EP, but its aheer scope warrants a mention ...

Frank Sidebottom Salutes the magic of Freddie Mercury and Queen (and also Kylie Minogue ... you know, her off Neighbours)

"All that you hear is radio googoo, radio gaga and radio googoo ..."
