Country

If you want to explore country, check out spotify You can listen to all generes of country before you splash out. For me I like old style country like George Jones, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Don Williams, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson although George Strait is my guy. The UK is so far back when it comes to country music despite it's rebirth even in America. Check out Garth Brooks, Kenny Chesney, Leeann Womack oh there is so much

Recently Jamie Foxx just floored me singing a George Strait song

I mean, there's a big appetite for country music in the UK. Maybe not for CMT country, granted.

e2A: And for some key figures with a weird relationship to the mainstream, it's fans in the UK and other parts of Europe that have shown the most interest, eg G Parsons.

What I have noticed is British interest runs either to Alt-country or the new popsicle stuff like Taylor Swift and Rascal Flatts. Parsons was never true country.

I must have all these Hank Snow, Hank Williams, Bob Wills, George Jones, Boxcar Willie and Loretta Lynn albums by mistake then...

Wtf? Just because he was never embraced by that cunt Acuff and the conservative GOO establishment of the time? By that definition you could say Hank Williams was never true country either. Country is a broad genre no matter what Music Row tries to tell you.

Ooh looky looky here. A wannabe music insider rebel. Listen I know
the country genre is some what broader than just steel guitars and whining men and a lot of that is due to people wanting to create something out of something. A performer dies and then years later he/she is hand picked and folks start to label him with cliches such "innovative", "Cool" and my favorite one "Pioneer" Don't get me wrong I appreciate some of his music but I'm not crazy about it. Did I mention Hank Williams? No, so you have no idea how I really feel about him. The list I gave was a very short list of all the country music I appreciate and I tend to gravitate towards more "traditional" (for lack of anyother word) sounding country be it by the old guys or their later contemporaries like Alan Jackson or George Strait.

Jerry Jeff Walker is excellent in particular his albums Viva Terlingua, and Ridin High. I like Cow Jazz as well. He is an excellent song writer.

Since you have me thinking of Country music, another obscure but talented musician would be Kinky Friedman Sold American, and Lasso from El Paso are both excellent. Stay away from his books.

Couple people mentioned Willie Nelson, check out Red-headed Stranger, Honeysuckle Rose, Stardust, Teatro, or Milk Cow Blues. He’s done a lot and it is pretty much all goods.

Kinky is cool. I met him a few times in Texas/ Have you read any of his books? Nothing obscure about him.

yeah:D...someone else who isn't ashamed to admit the Garth can write a great tune. He knows his demographic for sure and therein lies the problem - he just churns them out and after a whle they all sound the same thing though some do stand out as they are just so complete.

While he seems a bit of a twunt, Alan Jackson really pricks my ears up when I hear him randomly. Great interpreter of song. When he gets really old, I mean really old, someone will do a Johnny Cash on him.

Another Nashville meainsteamer I had a lot of time for was Tracy Byrd - great vocalist and he nailed take This Job And Shove It in the 90s.

Of the 90s gals I though Lee Ann Womack was great..

Tim McGraw is a certfied cunt though.

I know I'm guilty of this but so much more fun talking about Nashville than Americana sometimes.

Cunt appears to be a favorite word of yours. Tim McGraw is one because....?
