Country music in Jamaica

Like Music Row in Nashville involved or just in the general business?

That must have been wild.

How can you say that? He was shredding the fuck out of that axe!

Country, I want to hear more country!!!

Oh he's cute and all that and there are a few tunes I like, but I'm really not into him. Check out Jack Ingram. The real country purists don't like him they think he's too "rocky". But I like his style when I'm in the mood.

Measure of a man accoustic

He's easy on the eye in a toy boy sort of way.

Just checked it on Amazon and it's now £140. Sure i only spent $40 max on it in DC which is about what it's worth as it's but patchily curated.

on a related note, have you heard the two Dirty Laundry albums? Soul greats doing country classics - fucking marvellous

Got the first one with Bobby Womack on a horse on the cover and it's well good.
Heard the second one but it wasn't as good

Picked that up at a car boot sale for £1 - really took me by suprise, really lovely:cool: I didn't know there was a second one............

*make a note to go to more car boot sales*

Another good selection is Rhythm Country and Blues it's an effing awesome ensemble of country and soul artists put together by Don Was. I've had it for years in my collection and still waiting for a DVD of the session to be released.

I have a blog... not strictly musical but a little dis n dat. I'm trying to come up with something about Blacks in country music. I started a thread on a popular forum that turned into a heated 10 page thread...on account of a lot of rednecks giving their tuppence worth and getting very defensive.

Anywho, here are a few black artists trying to crack the market.

Darius Rucker has done quite, you might remember him from Hootie and the Blow fish, still the girls aren't creamin' their panties they way they do over Tim McGraw and all the rest.... that's a whole 'nother story in it's self.

Rissi Palmer doesn't get the air play she should....and I listen two a couple of US country music stations on line

More so because of the crappy music they made him play and the step n fetch act he had, that no self respecting black man would put up with. As for McCain, he had no other choice considering the people he was steppin and fetchin for.

You might find this interesting Not quite Jamaica but Africa.
thanks - interesting - sentimental music - i like that
thanks - really want to hear this

thanks for nothing!

I'll refrain from posting a Big & Rich link.

no need! me and ms watch the country music awards on the box the last 3 years - big and rich are always on! its a really fun awards show - my favourite to be honest!

in the country awards its the women that really kill it - always have these tough stories behind them, surrounded by asshole wannabe cowboys, and their voices are always big and soulful, especially the slightly senior ladies.

next awards Nov 11th! usually on bbc2
Randy Scrugz! Little Bigtown! Cant wait :)

Another interesting cut is a Lee Perry production with "Bree Daniels" on vocals called - Oh Me, Oh My.

Theres no record of Bree Daniels, other than as a fictional character in a tv series - I reckon this a made up name with either someone from Jamaica pretending to sing like a country singer, or maybe it was some lost cowboy who managed to drift through the Black Ark - either way its a unique bit of jamaican country music.

The song can be found along with the dub version on my lee perry mix here (plug!):

Thanks for that. I brought this up cos I have a friend, a slightly older guy, who confessed a secret love of country and reggae - the company he keeps aren't down with either!

Anyhow, Im going to get him to do a compilation of his favourite country back to back with reggae and stick it up on the radio/mixes forum - I'll pass on the names you mention and see if it rings bells with him.

EDIT: I say reggae, but I think he likes earlier stuff - rocksteady, ska etc.
This is a few years ago but I'm hoping someone may still be active here. I'm wanting Caribbean immigrants and their children to fill out a survey regarding American country music. I am undertaking research for a dissertation. I would appreciate it if someone could get in touch. Regards Judy
