Corrie plots: Jamie the MF, and Tracey the "actor"

I love Corrie. And usually the writing is incredible. But these two recent plotlines just aren't doing it for me.

First, I'm not convinced by the Jamie/Frankie thing. They wouldn't get it on. No way. She wouldn't fancy him. And even if he did fancy her, he wouldn't push it. And they'd never have got it together, if the writers were being true to the characters.

Secondly, the actors aren't able to pull it off. Frankie looks bored. She looks like she's given up the ghost, and can't wait for her maternity leave to start. Jamie just can't act. He can do "matey". He can do "having a larrf". But he can't do "troubled". He just looks constipated.

Then there's Danny's disappearance - that was just rubbish. Not believable. Not entertaining. Not thought through. Who wrote that stuff? It was back of a fag packet fare. Desperate. Utterly desperate.

Now Tracey. Here again, an actor given material that is beyond her capability. The contrived argument scene was itself contrived, and would have taken a better actor to pull off than Kate Ford.

So. OK Corrie, let's get back to form sharpish, please.

Come off it Corries rubbish anyway. I know it's got a massive following, and it does have some good comedy moments, but as a drama it sucks arse

I agree completely about the Baldwins story. Frankie couldn't look less in love with Jamie if she tried and Jamie is giving me the willies now.

I am really enjoying the Tracy story though, I think Kate Ford is really good. Charlie and Tracy are a fab double act, they almost make their relationship look fun.

You couldn't be more wrong. Corrie is great drama. It's funny, character-driven, well-written (usually), well-acted (often), and consistently the best thing on telly.

It never does the cluckingly introduced "issues" thing that other soaps do. If anything comes up, it is developed naturally through characters, not dropped in because controversy is needed. In Eastenders, for example, the lines are interchangable; any character could say them. In Corrie, there is lightness of touch, humour, and depth. In short, there is drama. Which is not the same as shouting.

The only characters I like in these soaps are the ones they use to savagely murder other characters.

Emmerdale Farm with the plane killing most of the cast has to be one of the best scenarios.

Just need a few of them to land on Wetherfield.

Ah shit, he says it was the Jews and lizards what done 9/11 and he can't help me...

One of the things that sets Corrie apart is that they have some strong well written female characters which, so I was told by someone 'in the know' as they say, is because, so I was told, most of the screen writers for Corrie are gay and can emphasise with that type of character.

By the way IMHO the two characters in Corrie that get the best lines, humourous and perceptive are little Sophie Webster and Blanche Hunt - Blanche gets some great one liners - she's a bigotted old git but she cracks me up.

That guy who kidnapped Deirdre Barlow during christmas back in the 80s when she was doing some social work or summat and she befriended a struggling unemployed single dad, took pity on him cos he couldnt afford prezzies for his kids, and so she took round a couple of teddy bears for the kids and he kept her captive. Notice Deirdre never ever mentions him?

Also Emily never mentions the fact that she was almost murdered by Hillman in exactly the same spot that her husband Earnest Bishop was murdered.

I try not to think about them either cos it just makes the show seem silly and unrealistic:rolleyes: :D
