And if I do lose weight from my thighs it's actually muscle and I kill myself next time I get on my bike.(which is what has just happened after a several days of hardly eating and not cycling
)
This is because if you hardly eat the body goes into starvation mode, ie it's programmed by nature to store the fat as priority and lose the muscle first. Crash diets never give good results.
Regarding dress sizes and weight loss it varies as many people store fat in higher proportions in different areas of the body. I know people who have the most fat on their legs and thighs but if they lose weight it seems that they have dropped a couple of dress sizes because fat has come off the waist when there wasn't that much there to start with.
I know others who have really skinny legs but quite a deposit of fat on the stomach and upper body, this is where it can be dangerous as there's more of a chance that they are carrying visceral fat.

Yup, at 6ft 1" I've dropped a couple of stone in the last couple of years - but have only gone from a 'large' size 18, verging on 20 to a 'largish' size 16 on my bottom half. Top half has stayed pretty consistently at a size 14, occasionally 16.
