Nah love - not now. Big fuck off roadworks round the Green because of the new mega shopping centre. She'll be stuck there for hours

Fair enough. Haven't been through that way for a few months now.

*gives an extra £ tip*

Rushmore Rd - E5

blimey, i'm down the road from there, i wouldn't come the way the sat nav recommends, particularly as it is taking you through the congestion zone - kerching

i would come off the m4, m25. then a40/m40, and just follow that in, you don't go through the congestion zone, you skirt it:cool: keep on the a40, and it takes you through to kings cross basically, and stay on it up towards angel, turn left by the jurys inn on pentonville road, then turn lright on to upper street, left onto upper street, then right onto essex road, follow that til you get to a crossroads, take the right, which is balls pond road (i think) that leads you to the delights of dalston (stop and buy a-z) you are nearly in clapton:cool:

The way that has served me well is this. Come up the M4 and stay on it when it becomes the A4 until the signposts show exit for Shepherd's Bush (before the Hammersmith floyover). Keep to the left lane after you turn off, and after a few sets of lights and 2 successive rounds of round-abouts where you keep aiming for Shepherds Bush. Hopefully, you find yourself on Shepherd's Bush Road which you follow up to the Green, when you keep to the right and turn right around the Green. You go past the Empire on your left so make sure you're turning right when you see it.

Follow past the shops to another big round-about and take the left just after the tube station, up the dual carriageway towards the Westway and the A40. You want the Eastbound carriageway so around another couple of round-abouts and you should find yourself heading up the Westway into Marylebone Road and then Euston Road. Now you just follow your nose for a few miles, go through Kings X and up the hill. Turn left by a hotel (can't remember the name now) at top of hill and follow road around to Islington High St. Road comes out opposite the tube and you have to turn left.

Turn left and drive up through 3 or 4 sets of lights, keeping on the right lane so that as you hit Islington Green, you take a right turn. This is onto Essex Road, which you drive the length of before turning right onto Balls Pond Road after a mile or two, when you see a church on the left. Then you simply follow your nose really, straight ahead and after driving thru Dalston and Hackney, you'll see signposts for Clapton.

I think it avoids all of the congestion charge zones and is reasonably quick and straighforward when i've done it that way. I have come back thru Picadilly on a couple of times and it really is worth avoiding imo/e.

thats pretty much the route i take when i use the A303/M3/A316 in to hammersmith and then up to stoke newington. i'm guessing clapton cant be much further on from there. and yes if you come down the a40 westway in to euston and kings cross you do avoid the congestion charge.

I've just put it through the route planner again and asked it to avoid toll roads and congestion charges and it's come up with pretty much the same route as some have posted here

Now, I've just got to work out how to get from Clapton to Camden :D

i drove up to london the weekend before last from cornwall and even at 10pm on a friday night i had to crawl from the marleybone flyover right up to kings cross. that particular stretch took about half an hour.

well then i would drive back through dalston (you should know where that is by now) - up balls pond road - through st pauls road, up to highbury corner, thyen up the holloway road til the junction with camden road - then followthe camden road which takes you to camden

i'd have got off that at lissom grove (just after the flyover) then driven via regents park to camden, tends to be a lot quieter

Scooting around Regents Park can be a total winner - however, it can be a right royal pain in the arse if roadworks crop up as has happened to us twice lately, or if you get stuck in rush hour traffic nicking up through Camden.

And what's yer plan for getting from Tower Hill to Whitechapel then, eh? eh?

You turn left at Londonmet Uni (that's opposite Tower Hill) follow the road around. The road splits left into the City and right into Aldgate, choose Aldgate. Follow that road straight all the way to Mile End but turn left at the big junction before getting to Mile End station. Follow that road straight all the way through vicoria park and that takes you to Hackney.

OR instead of turning off a Mile End turn left after Whitechapel tube on the corner of the Blind Beggar and drive all the way to Hackney central on the very same road.

But that takes you through the congestion charge ...

Whitechapel on a Friday night - best option is to give it as wide a berth as possible, imo, the traffic can be horrendous.

London on a Friday night is gunna be a nightmare no matter what.

You could go around on the M25 and then down the M11 straight into Hackney but that's hardly gunna be a barrel of laughs.

i would tend to agree when i've got someone in the car directing me. when i'm by myself i tend to stick with what i know as i dont have sat nav.

Madz fancy a pint with me and Ms KBJ when you get to London?:)

Normally I'd love to but tbh it's a bit of a flying visit. We're arriving late friday evening, trading all day saturday and leaving sunday morning :(

camden market?

She's really heading to brick lane with a towel to place her wares consisting of a doll with no head, a single dirty trainer, a 1987 Blue Peter Annual and some ropey VHS tapes featuring 'Asian Babes'

Wearing a tattered Father Christmas hat, swigging luke warm Special Brew, snarling at passers by.

We've seen it all before.
