Corn on the cob

I've been eating loads of corn on the cob lately. It's been cheap at Lidl, then Aldi now we're eating the ones we grew in growbags.

All microwaved, with nothing on.

grinder tried to griddle some the other day (as a bbq substitute). It sounded like it was turning into popcorn (but wetter and messier), so he transferred it to the oven with butter and foil.

I've always boiled it, tbh - but he was cooking five cobs at once, so it would have needed a big old pan.

microwave for a couple of minutes or so loads of butter tiny little bit of salt lots of pepper.

Tis the way forward.

This is actually very good especially with the husks still on. I like it nuked longer. that's the only time I'd use a microwave for cooking.

Deep fried corn on the cob is good too.

BBQ is best, but there's no point firing up a bbq for the sake of some corn on the cobs. Boiling is fine I think. I find they don't need much time at all, 5-10 mins placed straight into boiling water, you can quite easily tell when they're done from looking at them.

if you had gaps in your teeth it wouldnt get stuck would it. it's only if you have really close together teeth that it gets stuck very much.

My teeth are pretty much perfect.....apart from one which has slightly moved and is overlapping another. This defect was caused by eating corn on the cob

Every time I eat it it feels like its putting my teeth out all over the place

Fuckin love it though

Husk on, I throw them on the barbie. They steam that way, and pick up some smokeyness. (I cook on gas, but always use a smoke box)

Husk off, just nuke 'em. I don't find it tastes any different to boiling or baking and it's considerably faster.

Boil in until it smells done!!!

I know this sounds stupid, but it's best way. You will be able to smell the corn once it's cooked.

It usually takes 10-15 minutes.

(we eat a lot of corn on the cob - I live in corn country).

eta: add a touch of sugar to your salted water - it brings out the taste

Does it still have the sheaves on, or has it been stripped?

If it still has the sheaves, just put it straight onto the oven rack at about Gas 4 or 5. It'll be done in 20-30 minutes, and taste lovely. Then strip off the sheaves and rub butter onto it, or drizzle olive oil over it, and enjoy, typewriter stylee.

It the sheaves have been stripped... are they called sheaves? oh well, you know what I mean... If they've been stripped off, wrap the cob in some tin foil before baking.

Oh, I think I'll try that. Never done it in an oven before. My sister gave me some corn from her allotment the other day

*shudders at oven and barbecue*

To do it right, first have your pot of water boiling.
Then go pick you ears of corn.
Shuck it as you walk over to the water.
Toss it in.
Wait for the smell.
Remove and eat.

Obviously the only way to butter it is to spread butter thickly on a crust of bread, hold it in the palm of your hand like a mitt. Pick up the cob with your bread mitt and rotate the cob. The bread is nearly as good as the cob.
