she doesn't have a great voice, she has a mannered and limited voice of the kind that people always respond to with 'great voice' :)

the more i think about this, the more angry it makes me. I have close, close friends with (IMO) dreadful taste in music. And know some utter cunts with virtually the same record collection as me.

You need to have a think about how prejudice works.
My,i had no idea how seriously you'd take that comment. My deepest apologies,i'll keep my tongue-in-cheek nonsense to myself in future.

(and i'll try to restrain myself from pointing out that you've told me i must get to know people before i make judgements about them, while branding me a small-minded prejudiced idiot based on one sarky comment made on an internet message board on a Friday afternoon ;) )

You don't know that Jodal fella do you Chris? I'd disown him if I were you. Like a pair of velvet-effect flared loon-pants he'll drag you down...

;)

sorry for bringing this up again but it's MOBO tonight ,so kind of topical.

At first i thought pretty much the same as most of you lot, a bit dido, a bit norah etc. But I have actually listened to the album a few times now by proxy, as the woman in my life absolutely loves her. And I must say, it's definitely grown on me, she has, contrary to what you've read got a really good voice, not the greatest, but that's asking a lot of anyone. There's a lot of soul in her delivery, even been likened to Billie Holliday, i wouldn't go that far, but the same ballpark. On top of that, she's a good performer, having heard some live stuff now. Sure some of the stuff is bland, but that's par for the course, when you making lounge jazz music. I reckon she can get a lot better. About the glottal stop delivery, well if she talks like that why not sing like it as well.

She also does a good cover of since i've been loving you, so that keeps me happy. :)

I've just merged three old threads together to keep things tidy.

I'm listening to her new album now At times it's a bit Minnie Ripperton-esque, although clearly soaked with her personal loss that adds a poignant edge to some of the songs on the album.

I'm not a massive fan of hers, but every time I've seen or read her in interviews, she always comes over as a thoroughly charming, likeable and sincere person.

Yeah, she is very attractive and has had a rough time of it, so I am not about to dump on her any more than life already has.
It's a NOT CRAP from me. I actually like that song about records being put on and everything, for some reason.

Mr K and I watched her performance on Later a few months ago drop-jawed in amazement. It was fantastic, and much more interesting than I expected from her.

No it's not (well, not in this instance anyway). It was a very musical performance of a song that was a great deal more interesting than anything of hers I've previously heard.
