Ok, but surely if we're polling it, she's not crap alot more than crap on a scale of one to ten crapness where 10 is the most crap and 1 is not very crap at all...

no?

ok... :D

'Crap' in a dull way ! See Snorah Jones, Katie Melwhosherface and Jamie Dullum. Bailey Ray will be on Parky soon if she hasn't been already !

I haven't actually heard any of her stuff, but I just have this feeling she one of those 'music for people who don't like music' artists. You know, people who just buy James Blunt and Coldplay and Dido because they've heard it's sort of cool and think it's the sort of thing they ought to have.

Lately I posted a thread asking if she reminded anyone of another singer and I've just realised it's Nelly Furtado! Thanks fuck for that, it's been driving me nuts.

i hate that attitude.

by all means diss the artist - fuck knows, i do - but i think it's pure arrogance to slag off people who like it as knowing nothing about it.

i think Dido is vile. I make no such judgment about the people who like her.

Crap, but like the poster above states, she's too bland and inoffensive to get really angry about.

I heard her on a Jools Holland show many months ago, and thought she was going to be a bit interesting. She wasn't though.

On the plus side though, this thread has reminded me about Martina Tipley-Topley Bird who is

Three li'ow birds landed on her window and told her she doesn't have to enunciate.
Arrrrrgh, the pseudo-cutesy-me-so-kooky way she sings that makes me want to throw my radio out of the window.

Sorry, but if there's one thing life has taught me it's to be totally judgemental about people based on their taste in music. With hindsight i should have run like the wind away from my ex-boyfriend the first time i went out with him and he had Lionel Richie on in the car. Similarly,i've only ever met one person who genuinely liked The Darkness, and he turned out to be a member of the BNP.

Smallminded prejudicial crap.

my initial response is that you're an idiot.

my more considered response is, yes, you're still an idiot.

my even more considered response is that perhaps you could build up an impression of somebody based on a few indications, music taste being among them, which MIGHT help you reach a conclusion about them. But there are so many caveats, it's practically meaningless.

I like the Darkness, I saw them at Ally Pally with Pie Eye last month. But I detest the BNP. So that's two people you know of who genuinely like the Darkness, one is a BNP member, one has actively fought them. So you therefore can conclude nothing and i return to my earliest point:

You're an idiot.

So, Dub...

What do you think of the people choosing to dump Elvis ahead of the Beatles on that there other thread, then?

Only kidding.

:)

the more i think about this, the more angry it makes me. I have close, close friends with (IMO) dreadful taste in music. And know some utter cunts with virtually the same record collection as me.

You need to have a think about how prejudice works.

Hold up! All I'm saying really is that is music for people who don't like music all that much, for whom it's not that important. I'm not calling forth judgement upon them - did I say they were vile, hateful or stupid? No... or if it sounded like that it's not what I mean at all!

I'm just saying there do seem to me to be people who buy music as a thing that just happens in the background, they're not that engaged with it and they are perfectly within their rights to have that attitude[/I. As I said on t'other thread, I'm marrying a person who's not much of a music liker in fact!

But I do think that certain fairly middling artists do quite well from people who just hear a track or two, buy the album, have it on in the background a few times and pull it out now and then for parties but never listen to it. Because I know people who have that attitude to it. Just an observation, like.

Corinne did her new video in my bar last week - she's quite nice herself and the new song's not bad, not particularly great either but as a radio friendly unit shifter it's definitely on the listenable side of things.

(If you look for the barman in the background, that'll be me....)

the music goes into a box marked "virgin/radio 2 fodder, my mum will like it" - but i have bigger problems.

when i was trying to help myself out of my nast scary phase of my acid trip last month, i ended up watching some music videos - this one came on twice on more 4 within about an hour. and her oddly large mouth became very warped and scary. Consequently she gives me the fear.

Unbearably, painfully bland - as offensive as beige can get. Not quite as downright satanic as Dido or Melua, but even more fucking annoying than Norah Jones.

She has a great voice, shame she dosent do something a bit more interesting with it.
exactly how i see it. great voice - now she just needs a producer and a songwriter who can put it to proper use.
