It's fucking immense in this taiwanese hotpot recipe lemontop gave me, which I believe I stuck up on the wiki page

Coriander leaves are wonderful, they improve anything that they are put on. Coriander is parsley for grown-ups.

youre not really much of a herbsman if you dont like coriander eh? Herbsman, maybe you should change yr name to Someherbsareokman :p

I too dislike coriander. It's not soapy to me, it's more like a manky old dishrag.

Tarragon is similar, to me. At least, the smell of it is.

I like coriander seeds though.

I just had huge tiger prawns marinaded in garlic, coriander, pepper, chilli, salt and lime and the were lush. Followed by poached turbot and peas and new potatoes. :)

 Glad you liked it.

Coriander is my favourite herb. Love it in soups, curries and salads. I grew a load this summer so pretty much everything I ate had a load of coriander in it.

Omg

SO TOTALLY AGREE

coriander is the worst taste known to mankind....ha ive always hated it, always i tell thee...especially when travelling around south america, they fucking put it in EVERYTHING breakfast... eggs, soups, bacon + coriander, lunch....coriander, dinner, coriander, every fucking time... we even tried to learn the name coriander in spanish to say NO to the fucker but they enevitably thought we meant PUT MORE IN...

makes me puke every single time...

end of rant.... ps

story - "manky old dishrag." - thats being too nice

You poor, poor people (re coriander). And parsley is a bit of an acquired taste, but once you realise what's going on there (and use lots of) it's awesome.

And Herbsman, you get triple pity after your admission that orgasms are crap too :(

I love parsley.

Orgasms are only crap because actual sex is awesome and orgasm = </sex>. At least temporarily anyway.

I used to detest fresh coriander but I've trained myself to love it - probably THE most essential herb I have in my house.

Well, it's good to see that the tastebuds of a few mature over time.

Maybe, just maybe, one day Herbsman will develop adult tastes and appreciate the joy of fresh coriander. Until then he'll have to make do with Vesta curries and mildly spiced dishes put together by conservative old ladies in Anglesey.

;) :p

I too used to hate the stuff, but am now a convert. It is nice, especially in curries. This is a fact.

Ah, well, you're a bloke so that's pretty much always gonna be the case, so you need to figure out a way of not seeing it in a negative light

Fuck off  my tastebuds are far more 'adult' than most. I can't think of any 'proper' food that I don't like the taste of except coriander. Anyway, like I said, I'm trying to condition myself to like it.

I recently got some rosemary + sage shower gel, but i'm not going to get it again as I don't want to be reminded of shower gel evry time I use it.

Once I tried some Korean toothpaste with 'fresh pine forest' taste. I immediately associated with toilet cleaning products, and i'm sure it wouldn't sell well over here.

corriander is a must for vietanamese noodle soups.
that combined with mint is lush.
they kinda taste empty without one another.

it's also an important 'un for thai foods.

(as well for some indian curries)

And for a huge amount of Portuguese and South American cuisine it's near essential too. I couldn't live without the stuff. And CA's right, I couldn't imagine some noodle soups without coriander.

So basically are we agreed then - anyone who doesn't like coriander tends to lead a sheltered, insular life. They're the kind of people who like to go to the cafe in their local Littlewoods and order the set meal No.4 every Thursday afternoon at 12.32 precisely.

This thread may have backfired on Herbsman. Despite the blatant bias of his poll, coriander's streaking ahead in the popularity stakes. Old Herbsman isn't looking like a man of the world here, more a sheltered soul with an irrational dislike of one of the world's most loved herbs. Weirdo...

;) :p

Coriander is one of my favourite spices, especially good in South American dishes. I think oregano just beats for me, 'cos I cook more Italian.
I think fresh coriander just brings a dish alive, it's so fresh and aromatic and it blends with tomato so well.

Each to their own, it took me 22 years to acquire the taste of olives, which I now eat by the bucketload.
