Cooling meat quickly

If the point is too cool the chicken quickly then surely putting it straight in the fridge is the best option. Letting it cool slowly outside the fridge is going to take much, much longer (unless your kitchen's freezing) and create more bacteria.
The amount of stuff in my fridge, it's not going to raise the temperature of it very much, the 2 sixpacks pack of beer on the bottom shelf is a whole cooling agent on it's own. I've been doing this my whole life and I've never had food poisoning. I also use the fridge to cool my kid's food and she's never ill.

But then I think middle-class germ paranoia is well out of hand, like some cultural OCD caused by watching too much day time telly with its constant flow of anti-bacterial products...so instead people toxify their homes with a multitude of cleaning products and wonder why so many people are allergic to everything and why you leave certain people's homes with a coating of phenol and cresol on your tongue and the inability to smell anything because the air freshners have subdued your olfractory senses.

Lucky I'm not middle-class then innit? :D

I know you ain't Minnie ;) - I was just ranting about a wider malaise. Probably triggered by my gf's middle class parents who visited last week and think that you should hoover twice a day if you've got kids (we hoover twice a week if we're lucky).

You hoover TWICE a week?

Your kids will never build up a resistance to dust  :D

Our place gets a hoover once a week....

if it's lucky :o

LOL, welllll, mostly. I do it on a Saturday and Ms S insists she does it some other day, but I'm not convinced...

"I" do it whenever I can convince b/f he needs to get off his arse and do it :D

That's it. It isn't going to raise the temperature of other stuff much - I refrained from quoting the calculations from that discussion I linked, but they're there.

"Always keep lots of beer in the fridge" would be much better safety advice than "don't put hot things in" :)

And yes, the paranoia about is ridiculous. There's evidence (though not yet conclusive) that asthma and allergies are caused by a lack of dirt in childhood.

Well I don't have problems with dust etc., neither does my b/f. I just don't want to give him a dodgy belly :D

Herbsman - you seem to specialise in utterly pointless contributions. Think about this post for example, if you dropped this into a face-to-face conversation anywhere, people would pause, look at you for a moment and then conclude you were a fucking halfwit. And probably a tedious, follow-people-to-the-pub fucking halfwit.

What are you doing ? Have a word FFS.
