Brydon will always be in Coogan's shadow :)

Agreed - and it was through Coogan's promotion of him that Brydon has got where he is today..... being walked out on by Jack Dee's audience.

In about 1990 I saw Steve Coogan, Jeremy Hardy and Jack Dee for £1.99 on the same bill. Bargain :)

Coogan - Brydon's got one basic character in different situations (even Supernova was basically Geoff given brains and moved to the outback). Coogan has had the balls to experiment with different characters and TBH I think that, when he gets it right, he's just funnier than Brydon. Partridge is a work of genius, esp the meeting with the producer after the 1st season of KMKY tanks and he meets him for lunch and ends up begging...too painful and funny, but for me Coogan's best character is Gareth Cheeseman -

You're a TIGER!!! RAH!!!!!

The meeting with Tony Hares is the all time greatest Partridge moment, with the triple-header of "monkey-tennis", "wh-wh-wh-who do you think you are? and "smell my cheese you mother". However he does have the funniest sex ever seen on screen too.

Coogan because Partridge is unparalleled genius.

The scary thing is that those ideas he was coming up with in that episode have been made into shows now haven't they?

"Arm Wrestling With Chas'N'Dave" doesn't sound that beyond belief in the current climate admittedly, although you wreckon even ITV would baulk at "Knowing M.E. Knowing You".

I've always figured one of the reasons why the first series of Alan Patridge was so good was that after the failure of Tony Ferino..(sp), Coogan had a certain amount of baggage to get off his chest.. particularly with regard to BBC commisioning editors..

Anyway.. if you think Brydon's a one trick pony watch 'Human Remains'.

I thought Tony Ferino came after Partridge.

the first Partridge TV series was just a remake of the radio shows from the early 90s .

Ferino was a post-Day Today creation I think, just before KMKY as I recall.

How about a Day Today poll? Coogan vs Morris vs Iannucci. That is very tricky if you consider their entire careers.

he's a mentalist he's mentalist

they were very funny on the show tonight, neil kinnock impressions, wow I was thinking this guy allegedly bonked Ms Kurt? how did he break america again? not with Frivillous Fog?

I hate watching JR but he has good guests

As they are starring in a new movie together I thought we might want to find out...

Who is the funnier comedian?

coogan03.jpg

Steve Coogan - The Day Today, Knowing Me Knowing You, I'm Alan Partridge, Parole Officer, 24hr Party People

theatre50.jpg

Rob Brydon - Marion and Geoff , The Keith Barret Show, Director's Commentary plus loads of scene stealing cameos in stuff like I'm Alan Partridge and Black Books

I'll start things off by saying...

Even though Coogan has the more impressive body of work and is definitely more established I would have to say that imvho Rob Brydon is the more natuarally funny comedian. So, my vote goes to Rob Brydon.

Rob Brydon is not in the slightest bit funny.

I get this unnering feeling that they're actually the result of an experiment in a human equivalent of mitosis.

The JR show was a bit cringey, they were desperately trying to outdo one another in impressions and Coogan was being a dick as usual hogging the space on the settee and generally trying to take over the conversation. To be fair, he looked uncomfortable and as if he had a lot to prove with RB beside him.

SC was the king of the comedy castle (AP would be proud of that one!) but imo AP was the pinnacle and nothing else has topped it, same as M&G was Brydon's best creation but Brydon is flavour of the month. I think SC knows it too...

I dare say you are wrong. I thought the same thing before I watched A Cock and Bull Story, but he really whipes the floor with Coogan.
