Controversial Fridge Items

what about
brown sauce/bbq sauce
Mayo
leeks
onions
potato
bread
Mayo - yes, when opened
leeks - nope
onions - no
potato - no, you weirdo!
bread - no, never
If it's sliced bread, in the fridge they go.
but refrigerated bread goes soggy! - blee...
On account of very rarely making boiled eggs, I render this less relevant than the desire for my eggs to stay fresher for longer.
if refrigerating eggs kept them fresher for longer you can bet your arse that the supermarkets would be doing it.

Eggs - no
Jam - no
Tomatoes and tomato puree - no
Lemons (particularly half-lemons) - no. half lemons and limes tend to go in the freezer, when I have enough I intend to make marmalade
Mushrooms - yes
Butter - no

Agree other than your stance on half-lemons. I recently found a half lemon that had inadvertantly found it's way to the bottom of the fruit bowl and languished there for some period. It was not very nice.

ah

yes, now i think about it, half lemons should just be left about the kitchen, with a little note on them saying 'use me or i'll dry up'

Eggs - no no no, eggs from the fridge will crack when you go to boil them.

Didn't know that - my mum never kept eggs in the fridge - I'm gonna stop now.

what about
brown sauce/bbq sauce
Mayo
leeks
onions
potato
bread

I keep all of those cept bread in the fridge.

No it doesn't. For the same reason you don't put jams and pickles in the fridge. :p

Jams and pickles once opened go in the fridge.

Coffee goes in the freezer - doesn't freeze but keeps it's freshness better.

They've got a high turnover so I doubt they stay on the shelves long enough for it to make any difference to the supermarket.

Refridgeration is expensive so supermarkets don't cool anything that's not perishable within the amount of time it's going to be in the store.

Eggs - no
Jam - no
Tomatoes and tomato puree - toms, no. Opened puree, yes.
Mushrooms - yes
Butter - yes

Next?

You were so close.

Mushrooms NO!! Atomic is right about eggs btw.

In our fridge is things like milk, cheese, chocolate(whole drawer for chocolate coz I don't keep veg in the fridge(weirdos :p ), spreads and opened things.

brown sauce/bbq sauce - god no
Mayo - yes once opened
leeks - occasionally, or in a paper bag in a draw
onions - no
potato - no
bread - definately no

It has the potential to be quite controversial if you've been prescribed suppositories and the doctor has told you to keep them in the fridge, but you live in a shared house. Not that I've ever faced this awkward problem :hmm:

Why would suppositories go in the fridge? I never heard this :hmm:

They stay fresh for quite a while you know. I don't feel the need to give up my fridge space to them, but then a six pack will be gone within the week.

Well, say you kept them in a medicine cabinet above a radiator - dis-AAAHHH-ster.

oh ok so a doctor would tell you to keep them in the fridge just in case you kept them in a cabinet that happened to be above a radiator and it was during the winter - that cleared that up - ta :)
