I liked the idea in the film that they added the chair despite it not being in the alien design and that’s the one thing which doesn’t work about the machine...till it just breaks off and it transpires that she was supposed to have traveled in zero gravity. I preferred that to the novels conventional inclusion of chairs, though the chintz thing was funny.
