i might point out that he and i are incredibly close and have a sense of abuse that is pretty much cook and moore at their most vicious. we would in no way talk to other people like we do to each other, nor tolerate anyone else making those sort of jokes.

he doesn't object to making violent chants against arsenal fans, nor singing a song the exact words of which i can't remember but it ends with "by the way sol campbell is gay". the hypocrisy is quite unpleasant.

The most racist chant I've ever heard Spurs fans sing is: "You're shit, you're small, you're fans are from Bengal, you've won F**k all" and that was away at Upton Park and only once.

I've heard all kinds of Sexist, homophobic shit though at the Lane and away.

The most overtly racist (and humourless) chanting I have from opposition fans was from West Ham and Chelsea.

Theres a varying number of bigots at every club, Spurs cant be singled out as any different than anyone else. Its an indication that racism is alive and well in the UK. You hear it more at football because when these idiots are in a large predominantly white male group they feel it acceptable to vocally express their foolish views

there is an interesting article in the grauniad the other day about a delegation from spurs having a meeting with the FA to discuss whether the whole yid army thing actively encourages racism (or casual racism) by its very nature. i'm not convinced it does although i can see the arguments that any team that self-identifies by using an expression like yid can result in the banter being anti-yid, IYSWIM.
