Con Air

Well, I enjoyed it and I watched them in order when they came out although didn't get to see the first one at the cinema. I think the first 3 are all very entertaining. The fourth was alright but getting a bit silly. Not seen the latest one yet.

Die hard 2 had...

1 shit bad guys - they couldn't even decide whether to make them foreign or American, couldn't be bothered to explain their motivations, and certainly couldn't be bothered to give them any personality.
2 much fewer decent 1 liners for Bruce willis to dish out. A couple of crackers, and a whole load that just didn't work.
3 poorly designed and edited action sequences - as expensive as they must have been to film, very few of the fights work particularly well. The gun fight in the under construction terminal is the one exception.
4 an obsession with reminding us that it was a sequel to the previous film. So old characters show up for the most tenuous of reasons for 2 minutes, Bruce ends up in his vest again, he keeps moaning that it always happens to him at Christmas, narrative echoes too complicated, boring and obvious to bother explaining. The scriptwriter/s clearly had a brief "make sure people know they are watching a sequel".

It's the weakest in the series, IMO, although I've heard number 5 really sucks.

STFU.

Just watched this again, well I switched off when they got to Las Vegas because that bit is just rubbish, but I usually like John Malkovich, he does good "bad guy" ..

Come to think of it, has he ever played a good guy?

Was he a "child" killer? I mean we know he was a killer but do we know he killed kids?

As I recall he wore one girl's head as a hat driving through several states. And why did you think they include the scene where he has tea with the girl? ffs welty.

Yes I recall that bit but his using the word "girl" did not make me think of children. My mum used to say she was having some girls round and the next thing you knew the house was filled with 50 year old women!
Any why did you think they include the scene where he has tea with the girl? ffs welty.
No need to "ffs" me Cid.. I am only making a point ffs .. He was portrayed as a psycho killer so basically my understanding was no one was safe .. including little girls.

Cyrus the Virus gets some choice lines

'Fly this plane or the last wings you'll see will be on the flies buzzing over your rotting corpse'

Wikipedia just says ... "and infamous serial killer Garland Greene, the "Marietta Mangler."

Cage's character asks him to spare the details, it's his daughter's birthday etc... He's definitely killed at least one kid.

This is one of those urban arguments that does not really matter.
If you think he was a child killer, perhaps he was... happy now?
To be honest, anyone who's earned the nickname "Marietta Mangler" probably has a rather murky history.
Yes there is no doubt he was a bad dude ..

its quite remarkable to see a bay film involving Nic Cage actually come good just on the strength of Connery, explosions and Ed Harris

Not to mention John Spencer and John C. McGinley pre-West Wing and Scrubs.

I've noticed McGinley seems to play soldiers / SWAT leaders in a ridiculous number of films, he's in Se7en too (yeah, I spell it like that, it pleases me).
