Computer Monitor thats also a TV

Maybe, that one only has DVI-D (aka DVI, or the current computer visual input thingy) and D-Sub. I don't know if your freeview box has D sub, hell, i'm not quite sure what it is :D

There are more expensive ones, like the 2407 from Dell that have every possible input source under the sun, but you end up paying a bit more for them, the dell is £445 ish, although there's probably something inbetween if we look.

Or you could buy a new freeview box, they're cheaper than going for a 2407.
I have a freeview box :) I don't need another (mainly cos we're after a new tele for the other room too and hence our current one would be freed up :o)

god this isn't helping :o

I'm confused here, are we looking at TVs that could also be a monitor or Monitors that could also be a TV

Ah, bollocks. :(

Hmmm, might be another monitor at a reasonably close price that can manage SCART...

I'm looking at monitors that can handle being used as TVs, cos that's what i like, but i'll have a quick glance at TVs that can be used as monitors for you too.

we currently have an LCD monitor that can't handle anything over 1024x768 (its about 6years old) so as long as the monitor isn't worse than that I'm a happy bunny :D

and as long as I can watch tele whilst decorating cakes I'm happy :D

the main TV is in the living room, this is a secondary one :)

First 32" LCD TV i found from a brand i know the name of: http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/119320 £400

Going smaller than that doesn't really save much money. It's got integrated freeview and a HDMI port, which should be useable with a DVI port on your computer. If not then another model similar to that will have the right port.

Fuck me! moment of the day: http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/130842
But it's not suitable for you, pity it's out of stock or i'd be thinking really hard about buying one myself!

Yeah, the cheapest 24" LCD monitor that i can find that would work with your freeview box is going to be the Dell 2407, which costs a measly £435 from ebuyer. http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/128136 it's shinier than a shiny thing but you have to ask "do i need this" and hear the resounding "NO!".

No one needs that much monitor :D

Ok, for things it's got you don't need:
It's 1080P compliant, to get a TV signal that good you've got to have a bluray or HD-DVD player, oh and it will work with either of those two btw.
It's got every possible connector under the sun, you won't be using most of them.
It's got a USB hub built into the monitor, why!?
It's big, very big. Not in bulk, but 24" of screen is HUGE (imo). You could probably get by with a much smaller screen happily. (the 2007 from dell is very similar just 20" in size)

you're being all sensible and grown up aren't you :D

I need that :o :D

it is very sweet though :o, like, really sweet :o

The 207 (aka the cheaper of the two) doesn't have Scart input, which rules it out. Then again there's a lot more competition at the 20-22" size so someone else's screens will probably be cheaper and have the right inputs.

see, why has no one suggested that so far? :D

I'm currently trying to get quotes for an aerial installation anyway, so that could do the job I think :)

cheers maty

PS you don't know any aerial people do you?

You will probably want the aerial installed, i'd get a 2nd point near computer, as the aerial with it isnt great - unless you are lucky. The roof aerial would make it full of win.

I dont know aerial people sorry :D

Clicky on linky in posty

You plug it in, and attach aerial, and it picks up freeview and puts it onscreen.
still needs the computer to be turned on, though, which aqua said she doesn't want...

we need aerial work doing anyway so thats not a problem

see, as I see it, I have to have the pc on really don't I? cos monitors with built in TV cards are few and far between, am I right?

Very very few and far. But a freeviewbox->monitor is a much more likely proposition.

Oh, and of course, monitors won't have speakers, so you'll need to ge the sound out somehow :)

not bad. Maybe a bit on the small side, but it's got all the features you need.
