Commuting to Guildford...

No, it's not feasible - services to London Road are fairly rare - and it's further away from the Research Park.

My brother does Streatham Hill to Godalming every day and hates it with a passion. It also costs him loads.

I reckon you will start to hate that last additional bit of the journey to get from Guildford to the retail park.

Don't get me wrong Guildford is nice enough - I grew up there, but any more than 1.5 hours commute is just too much.

Aye, it does sound far - but I'm thinking over summer it could be ok. I did a 2 hour commute last year from Brix to Uxbridge and actually didn't mind it. That was only for 2 weeks tho...

Thanks for all the tips tho, we'll see. It looks like I might've been counting my chickens a bit anyway, there's been deafening silence from my agency since I said ok (I thought it was a shoo-in but clearly not).

Have now applied for a job in Sidcup. Thread to follow ;)

That would require having a house to swap, or indeed even a bed. Homelessness is also on the very near horizon, moan moan..

Don't tell the Guildfordian that until they've said yes and given you the keys...

Proceed with caution - I had a temp job in Sidcup last year and it took me almost an hour to get there and that was the relatively easy Denmark Hill-Lewisham, Lewisham-Sidcup route, the other route (tube/train to London Bridge, LB to Sidcup) is marginally quicker but much much more expensive as it requires zone 1 travelcard. And Sidcup profoundly depressed me - its got all the disadvantages of London with none of the advantages. (although willing to have prejudices overturned by the Sidcup lovers among you)

I've made it to Guildford for 9am meetings from Norwich on weekdays, so it's certainly doable - although the trek from the station might be a bit far. I'd walk through the uni mind - nicer and quieter.

Trans pretty quiet going into Guildford, although there always seem to be lots of kids on the trains back going home from probably v posh schools.

Research park is a long long walk, bus is possible but you're still stuck in traffic. Folding bike and you're laughing, trains are regular and quick.
