(Don't know how long catbox links last so if you're interested I'd grab it). I'm not sure it addresses bonkers right wingness, but I only read some of the essays in it.
Liked his A Haunt of Fears a lot. (Amongst other things it solved the mystery of why the US horror comics and horror film mags I was buying suddenly vanished in London at the end of 1970. That followed the first, and as far as I know only, prosecution under the 1955 Children and Young Persons (Harmful Publications) Act. Still on the statute book, of course, just in case).

#witchcraftywankNot totally appropriate to this thread, but close enough, a friend just relayed this little tale about Grant Morrison.
Back in the 90s when Grant Morrison got really into chaos magick he did a thing in the Invisibles letter column about how if you create a sigil for something you want to happen and then masturbate while staring at it, you can make it happen. So he put one in the comic for it to go up in the charts and asked all the readers to dutifully wank over it.
proper fucking cackled (perhaps appropriately?) at that one.#witchcraftywank
Seems he's had his Great News For All ReadersThat's the one, a writer about comics rather than a comics writer? And similarly a writer about whether comics are dodgy/bonkers right wing or not rather than a bonkers right wing writer in his own right, from what I know of him. I remember A Haunt of Fears as being really interesting, haven't read the one about Antz, looking him up apparently he has one called Comics: Ideology, Power and the Critics which seemingly neither of us have read but you might be interested in? And he also has one about Judge Dredd, although that looks like it might be more about the film? Also heh heh you said seminal.

Aye, heās just got worse and worse and lost everything cos of it.It's not sudden, though, he's been sliding into manic obsession for many years now
This is the thread about comic-creating people, not the one about loon comedians and comedy types. Not strictly a comic but he wrote comedy

Years ago.WTF??!! When did this happen?![]()
Years ago.

Cos the thread said comic and I thought it referred to people who are funny rather than cartoon stripsGlinner has never created a comicbook as far as I'm aware so not sure why he's being talked about here?

The thread title and OP are clear, and a link to a more appropriate thread was politely proffered.
If you inadvertently go into a baker's and demand sausages, and the baker says 'sorry, no sausages here, it's a bakery', and suggests you pop next door to the butcher's, you don't get all arsey with them and insist they change their shop's name because 'baker' shares too many letters with 'butcher'. Or maybe you do![]()
I wasnāt getting arsey just pointing out my neglectful error

An attempt to make a right-wing superhero movie has ended in disaster, with $1 million missing in China and a participant facing a federal indictment.
āI wouldnāt count on us getting the money back,ā Theodore Beale, a far-right blogger known as āVox Day,ā admitted to his fans and investors in a video last week.
This isnāt how Bealeās followers thought their investments would go in 2019, when they started contributing to fund a film based on a Confederacy-themed superhero comic book character created by Beale. A trailer promoting the proposed movie, Rebelās Run, featured the character Rebel fighting a global police force hunting down freethinking conservatives.
A trailer promoting the planned filmā features a female character, Rebel, wearing a Confederate-flag inspired bustier while fighting a āglobal crackdown on hate,ā and a ādifferent kind of war.ā It includes clips of an interview with writer Chuck Dixon, who worked on the āBatmanā series and created āBane,ā and with producer Daniel McNicol, who has a handful of writing and production credits to his name.
Right-wing director Scooter Downey, who helmed a Tucker Carlson-backed ādocumentaryā on the Jan. 6, 2021 riot in the U.S. Capitol, was to direct.
The other big name attached to the film was Chuck Dixon, a well-known comics writer who has written for Marvelās Punisher series as well as DCās Batman through the 1990s and early 2000s. Since 2010 he has dived headlong into the alt-right conspiracist sphere and started writing for Bealeās Arkhaven brand including the Alt-Hero series. That comic even includes a āQā storyline, with the tagline āWhere we go one,ā which is a common phrase for the QAnon conspiracy that believes satanic Democrats are involved in a ring of cannabalistic pedophiles.
Just checked out Brendan McCarthy's twitter page as he posted about his eyesight going and not being able to work anymore, which is very sad. Amongst the nuttiness though it was even sadder to see him talking about not taking his statins any more because he's 'done his research' etc. The damage conspiraloons do!Okay, so Frank Miller was an easy spot, thanks to the Randist direction he wrenched Martha Washington into almost immediately, and then the post-9/11 pro-torture hissy fits.
But mid-80s 2nd Wave 2000AD art heroes Brendan McCarthy and brother Jim McCarthy? Aww come on! Below the belt, these guys were wacky, out-there, on the vanguard of weirdness! But indeed they are foam-flecked ruddy-cheeked green inkers of the SJW THIS/SNOWFLAKE THAT variety. And Brendan seems a big fan of Trump, and Jim of Morrissey.
Any others? (And I know C*m*csG*t* has opened the door to many a whiny Rodgers-alike fan; but it's the creators with name recognition I'm interested in...)
ah theadore beale, last time I heard of that stain he and others were attempting shenanigans on the Hugo Award (sf novels/written awards) voting. I see he's still At It.
Oh no. I saw about his eyes today, but didn't know about the other stuff, which is actually sadder.Just checked out Brendan McCarthy's twitter page as he posted about his eyesight going and not being able to work anymore, which is very sad.
