comedies you hate that everyone else likes

The Office - boring, embarrassing, depressing, and shit. A show as utterly dismal as the characters it portrays. Comes complete with an awful cover of an already awful Rod Stewart song for free.

yes. i tried so hard to get into it because everyone kept telling me how wonderful it was but eventually i came to the conclusion that it was bollox

I was that way with the theme from Cheers. I avoided that show for years because of that theme. But when I watched it, I quite liked it.

That's because Cheers is the greatest program ever made. Ever.

there are a few shows i hated when they first came out that have grown on me over the years. i can now watch the odd episode of cheers and only fools and horses, both of which i would have avoided like the plague at the time

Will and Grace... I've only seen this recently. It's very mild, overprocessed humour isn't it? Reminds me of those cheese slices they put on hamburgers. Kind of nothingy.

As for Bo'Selecta - devastatingly unfunny bollocks.

League of Gentlemen - like a few other people I don't actively dislike it but I don't really find it funny.

Johnny Vegas - a fat drunk bloke yelling incomprehensibly into a microphone. which for some reason sends people into hysterics.

Jimmy Carr - I think you'll find he's rather shit.

Green Wing and Spaced: sat straight-faced through both of them.

I never laughed that much at Green Wing, but I did enjoy watching it...

BoSelecta: big pile of stinking shit.
Friends: didn't mind it so much years ago, but now, it's on TV ALL THE FUCKING TIME!!!!!

I much prefer Cheers to Friends, Channel 4 used to show it all the time a couple of years ago and I really got into it.

Boselecta. What a waste of space.

Utter shite.

That new broken news thing is shite too, but I've yet to find anyone who thinks it's any good.

Apologies if done before.

The Office - boring, embarrassing, depressing, and shit. A show as utterly dismal as the characters it portrays. Comes complete with an awful cover of an already awful Rod Stewart song for free.

The Royle Family - see above, but minus the free Rod Stewart song.

Cold Feet - huh?

Little Britain - "yeah I know" was funny for about 3 days, and the "eh-eh-ehhh" guy was ok, but honestly, just shut up. "ooh-hoohooohooo, I'm a lady!" No, you're an overpaid, overrated transvestite who thinks he's funny.

Bo'Selecta - suffers from the same problem as Little Britain, but to a greater extreme: occasional moments of amusement don't really make up for the total lack of taste, wit, and humour in the rest of it. Nauseating drivel.

God yeah - half these shows are hailed as 'the greatest sitcom for 20 years!' or 'a new era in comdey'. Um... HELLO - Spaced, Black Books, League of Gentlemen, Fast Show (sure it got a bit dated when it was coming to its end, but that's what you expect from a show that goes on so long), Brasseye, Not the nine o clock news, Adam and Joe etc etc. Dunno what the hell has happened to our comedy of late - 's that twat off 'spoons who's always on those 'comedy' chat shows and fucking whatsisface - the guy with black hair and squinty eyes who's everywhere these days. Lots of smug fuckers who can't act playing type-cast roles in recycled crap.

Jimmy Carr - I think you'll find he's rather shit.

Very good :D

Johnny Vegas is great when he's on celeb panel shows - HIGNFY, Buzzcocks etc but his own show (18 stone of Idiot...accurate on SO many levels) and IMO Ideal are all shite.

Weird thing is that I laughed at 'A Bears Tail' but can't stand Bo! Selecta, which is the comedy equivalent of ricketts.

I can see why people don't like League, but for me it's one of the funniest British sitcoms ever...SO dark and disturbing...

No point in starting the Friends row all over again...I like the repeats...for me it's a guaranteed 30/60 minutes of laffs if there's dead air on and I can't be arsed to read/do something more productive with my life...

Friends  hate it hate it hate it fucking hate it.

vacuous american wankstains cracking lame wisecracks for an adoring audience of imbeciles. fucking hate it.

Friends - I've developed a Pavlovian response to Friends, soon as I hear the first few seconds of the theme tune I'll be trying either to leave the room at high speed or disable the television by any means necessary.

I have seen this for a man who is always calm it was a bit like watching a greyhound out of a trap :D

I hate friends, my hero, the good life

I used to love Lucas and Walliams. Rock Profile – hilarious. Little Britain on the radio – hilarious. Little Britain TV series one – hilarious. Unfortunately, I thought the last series are mediocre at best and the new one doesn't look up to much either (it has a granny whose gag is that she pisses herself a lot). For me they're way past their sell-by date and yet they're more popular than ever. It's bloody kids who like them, isn't it?  :)

Let's not forget the cooler than thou factor that often pervades threads dealing with populat entertainments of the day :D

I'm innocent on that score – I'm too old and square to ever be "cooler than thou". I wanted to like LB's last series but it was just really disappointing.

:D

I find with LB that I like the sketches for one or two repetitions then it's like 'Yeah, whatever'...there just doesn't seem to be the dramatic progression of The Fast Show characters - the whole Ted skit they did was really touching toward the end IMV, and Swiss Toni's deterioration...LB just seems to lack that kind if gentle, progressive depth.

Plus Suits You is a work of Genius...

Does she want oit from behind, sir? Can you see her turning her doe eyes toward you saying 'Harder, harder' sir' Suits you!

Little Britain
Friends
Will and Grace
Two Pints...
Coupling
Bo Selecta

I have actually tried to watch all of these as I have been told by many people that they are funny but I have just sat stony-faced through all of them and then felt slightly dirty and depressed afterwards.

Apart from Bo Selecta, which made me want to throw a tarpaulin over that gurning twat and nail down the corners with no real regard for where his flailing limbs were at the time.
