comedies you hate that everyone else likes

Most american sitcom does this to me. But I redeem myself by finding a lot of stuff other people hate very funny.

Friends - I've developed a Pavlovian response to Friends, soon as I hear the first few seconds of the theme tune I'll be trying either to leave the room at high speed or disable the television by any means necessary.

I was that way with the theme from Cheers. I avoided that show for years because of that theme. But when I watched it, I quite liked it.

That didn't work with Friends, though. I want them all to die horrible deaths, starting with Phoebe..... no: Ross,..........no..........

loads of stuff I watched when I was younger and thought was funny, but subsequently (thanks to the shite that is ABC1 on freeview) have rediscovered to be absolute arse.

I don't know if anyone would say it's 'genius' but I do like it. I found it to be a real slow burner though. I think it took about three weeks before it was actually funny, and it was only the last couple that had me really cracking up. I don't think you'd get that from just watching those last two though, it needs to build up.

And on topic, Friends. Seems to me if you deliberately aimed for lifeless and utterly mediocre then that's what you'd get. They wouldn't even stick their necks out far enough to be bad.

Possibly the only thing we're ever likely to agree on, but I'm SO glad I've finally found the one other person who dislikes this.

MIghty Boosh - just tries to be too clever and surreal for it's own good.

Little Britain - funny once or twice but doesn't have the staying power of The Fast Show - no real empathy with the characters. And Catherine Tate's 'Lauren' character is a much better pisstake of teenagers than Vicky Pollard.

Never really got into the Royle Family - as someone said, depressing rather than uplifting comedy.

The Office - boring, embarrassing, depressing, and shit. A show as utterly dismal as the characters it portrays. Comes complete with an awful cover of an already awful Rod Stewart song for free.

The Royle Family - see above, but minus the free Rod Stewart song.

Little Britain - "yeah I know" was funny for about 3 days, and the "eh-eh-ehhh" guy was ok, but honestly, just shut up. "ooh-hoohooohooo, I'm a lady!" No, you're an overpaid, overrated transvestite who thinks he's funny.

Bo'Selecta - suffers from the same problem as Little Britain, but to a greater extreme: occasional moments of amusement don't really make up for the total lack of taste, wit, and humour in the rest of it. Nauseating drivel.
