comedies you hate that everyone else likes

Most american sitcom does this to me. But I redeem myself by finding a lot of stuff other people hate very funny.

Friends - I've developed a Pavlovian response to Friends, soon as I hear the first few seconds of the theme tune I'll be trying either to leave the room at high speed or disable the television by any means necessary.

I was that way with the theme from Cheers. I avoided that show for years because of that theme. But when I watched it, I quite liked it.

That didn't work with Friends, though. I want them all to die horrible deaths, starting with Phoebe..... no: Ross,..........no..........

The jokes are as follows:

Will: Is gay.
Grace: Likes food, is stupid.
Jack: Is really gay.
Karen: Is alcoholic and unpleasant.

Vary on these themes for 24 minutes running time
I shouldn't like it but I often laugh :o
Didn't realise I wasn't meant to like The Office so I suppose Extras is an confession :)
Prefer League of Gentlemen to Little Britain ;)

Some Mothers do 'ave em is utter, utter, utter shite. Little Britain is awful as well, despite a couple of classic moments.

'duty free' - absolute rot

and 'surgical spirit' is also disgracefully bad

loads of stuff I watched when I was younger and thought was funny, but subsequently (thanks to the shite that is ABC1 on freeview) have rediscovered to be absolute arse.
cf.Spin City.

'spin city' is on itv2 :p

Morecambe and Wise-always appearing on compilation programs about the greatest comedy programs ever made.About as funny as wiping your arse and finding blood on the bog roll.

How could you not like The Office?! It's inspired an entire new genre of... oh, why bother? Here's a ball of tin foil. Knock yourself out. :(

I felt it pinched the idea from Operation Goodguys rather than spawned a genre.

Don't like most US ones I've seen, although I adore Frasier and still carry a torch for Roseanne. I've been told I would like Seinfeld but haven't gotten around to watching it yet. Anyhoo, apropos thread:

My Family. Wtf?

I'm going to stick up for Green wing and spaced - (although i guess i can see that if you like one, you wouldn't like the other...)

my problem is with Ideal... I'm clearly missing the genius cos it seems like unmitigated shite to me...

I don't know if anyone would say it's 'genius' but I do like it. I found it to be a real slow burner though. I think it took about three weeks before it was actually funny, and it was only the last couple that had me really cracking up. I don't think you'd get that from just watching those last two though, it needs to build up.

And on topic, Friends. Seems to me if you deliberately aimed for lifeless and utterly mediocre then that's what you'd get. They wouldn't even stick their necks out far enough to be bad.

Only Fools & Horses--utter toss. But like David Jason as Frost though.

Possibly the only thing we're ever likely to agree on, but I'm SO glad I've finally found the one other person who dislikes this.

MIghty Boosh - just tries to be too clever and surreal for it's own good.

Little Britain - funny once or twice but doesn't have the staying power of The Fast Show - no real empathy with the characters. And Catherine Tate's 'Lauren' character is a much better pisstake of teenagers than Vicky Pollard.

Never really got into the Royle Family - as someone said, depressing rather than uplifting comedy.

You like 'Ideal' and dislike 'Friends'?

Well hey...

I think they've all been mentioned already but it's nice to have a rant:

Friends. Why? What's it for? They're all wankers obsessed with coupling up, babies and marriage. WTF? It's not funny.

Will & Grace Pointless pointless pointless turgid dull nonsense. Crap idea for a comedy. Crap execution. Sexuality, stupidity and ugliness do not a joke make.

Fresh Prince Will Smith- fuck off and die you talentless cockweazle. You can't act, you can't rap and you're not funny.

Seinfeld Just eurghh. Makes me shudder.
...
Umm, gotta do something useful now, but that was fun!

Apologies if done before.

The Office - boring, embarrassing, depressing, and shit. A show as utterly dismal as the characters it portrays. Comes complete with an awful cover of an already awful Rod Stewart song for free.

The Royle Family - see above, but minus the free Rod Stewart song.

Cold Feet - huh?

Little Britain - "yeah I know" was funny for about 3 days, and the "eh-eh-ehhh" guy was ok, but honestly, just shut up. "ooh-hoohooohooo, I'm a lady!" No, you're an overpaid, overrated transvestite who thinks he's funny.

Bo'Selecta - suffers from the same problem as Little Britain, but to a greater extreme: occasional moments of amusement don't really make up for the total lack of taste, wit, and humour in the rest of it. Nauseating drivel.

What he said!
