Come On Coventry!!

Spoke to my mate who's a Cov fan last night, they took something like 11,000 along!!!! Could hardly hear him for the noise they were making. To say that he was pleased would be the understatement of the year, not only did they win but Cov bossed manure, from what he said.

i wasnt there (why the fuck would i be...) but according to 5live it was half empty and the only sound that could be heard was coming from the cov fans :)

I would have thought Man U fans 'should' care, because while the CCup is mickey mouse it provides an excellent competition to try out younger squad members and to bring back any long term injured first team players.

Without that comp:
1. you don't give the younger players a chance to develop in a meaningful competition
2. you have less chance of squad rotation if you have to keep some first team players happy.
3. no means to bring back long term injured into meaningful games

Of these number 1 is surely important for the development of a club generally.

Arsenal played their young players and you can be sure it damn well mattered as its all part of squad development and bringing players through.

I love the revisionism of Utd's most plastic of fans. One moment they're wittering on how they're the world's biggest club because of their brand of exciting attacking football, the next and they're apparently happy at scraping 1-0 draws with a formation including two defensive midfielders because winning's all that counts.

And now, after taiking about a good time to blood 35m worth of new attacking talent in the Carling Cup, they watch the youngsters play to a mediocre level and then - sour grapes level set to max - claim they didn't really give a shit about the performance and competition. Way to go with that use of a large squad.

So far this season and Utd are playing like the new Chelsea, with the transfer spending to match. Whereas Arsenal increase their lead in the playing fluid attacking football and discovering exciting new talent. Where does that leave Utd? - even Fulham look a bolder attacking proposition at the moment

so tell me would you rather have won in the Carling Cup on Tuesday than at Birmingham on Saturday?

(if i'm not being senile you're a dipper, no?)

Always disappointed to see Utd lose though was no shock, it's a sh*t competition and even if you win it means very little....same happened last year we won the league, would quite happily take that again....also you ask any Liverpool and Chelsea fan and ask if they could swap last nights result for those on the weekend they'd bite your arm off

Yeah but the big clubs have started taking it a little more seriously in the last few years, I've noticed. I remember when the final was virtually always middling teams, the last few have been all liverpewl/chelski/arsenal...

Agreed, I'm going to be cacking myself before kickoff on Saturday...

I'd rather have won both. I'd kind of expect that, playing at home against ugly Dowie's lower division team, and with 35m of 'two of the world's most exciting young talents' (TM) and 6 full internationals on show. Great motivational show by the manager there then - he's got the players fighting for the team and fans there. Why the excuses and either or option?

All MU season ticket holders are now forced into buying tickets for cup matches at OT, doubt it would have sold out without that little measure, coventry took over 10000 too.
Ditto the Goons the night before with 60,000, it's another rip off and con Prem clubs practice if they can get away with it.

Hence Spurs was also a virtual sell-out this week and last week in the earliest rounds of two cups (against Famagusta and now Boro).

A team of;

'Kuszczak, Bardsley (Brown 45), Evans (Carrick 56), Pique, Simpson, Nani, Martin (Campbell 45), O'Shea, Eagles, Dong, Anderson'

Says "no".

Indeed it's says united have "no" fucking chance of winning the League if they pick up injuries and this sorry lot are all they have to replace them with.

Oh, and hands off Sven as well.

n,o it's a dissapointment to see any Man Utd squad get beat by Coventry but I'd imagine most were more disappointed drawing with Reading in the league than getting put out of a mickey mouse cup.

Why the comparison?

Christ, you're exactly the kinda person that Roy Keane got so het up about, and exactly the kinda person that 'real' Man U fans are so embarrassed about.

To a certain extent yes though think that is as much to do with middle of the road teams playing weakened teams...if everyone plays with waker teams then those with the stronger squads should progress....anyhow as it is, hate seeing Utd lose though seems to happen regularly in this comp and a win on the weekend and against roma will leave me not that bothered, Coventry by all accounts deserved to win, their fans had a ball, cest la vie

Mr Filter on the money again.

It's virtually the textbook refrain of the glory hunter - 'that game doesn't matter - we lost'
<buy new game shirt, consumes game at distance on Sky whist munching prawn sandwich>

its not though is is it....you'd have to have about 15 players out before that team were to play week in week out....if that did happen then they would have no chance though neither would any other team

Listening to it on the radio, the attendance was 74000, only 11000 of whom were Sky Blues, yet you could only hear any noise from one section, guess which?

And apparently the Man U lot were streaming out in droves once Mifsud got his 2nd.

Don't get a lot more plastic than that.

yeah and the young 'stars' are the type of players you can stick into an organised solid team, they aren't the spine.

anyway the team Fergie put out that got hammered by Yorke City many moons ago had Giggs and Beckham in it and they didn't do to badly.:D

Attendance was over 74000 last night, how fucking big do they think Old Trafford is??

that's stretching my point a bit; what I was implying was that the strength in depth of their squad is pretty poor this season. I forget which game it was this season but their bench was made up of nobodies. I think in this respect they might have fallen behind the other three. Time will tell but I'm sure MUFC would have liked to have progressed in this cup just to give fringe players a run out a la Arsenal. They've blooded some good young players in this tournamnet over the years.
I know it isn't a biggie getting knocked out at this stage but the lack of depth would concern me if i was a red.

Would that be 74K tickets sold or 74k through the gate? Not having a pop but just curious. I know City used to massage figures like that.

If you read this thread, you'll understand that last night's ticket is part of the season ticket - you already have it if you're a s/t holder. It doesn't mean you have to go. As this thread describes.

Disagree totally..I think Utd have a stonger squad now that they have in years, save maybe a world class defender, though with brown, oshea and silvestre (fit) think they can accomodate anyone of Neville, vidic ferdinand and evra being out. The midfield take your pick of Scholes, carrick, hargreaves, giggs, ronaldo, nani and andersen who when he gets a run will be IMHO frightening...Saha Tevez and Rooney upfront...I'd say very strong and a far cry from the team last night:)

When United won the Carling Cup in 2006 I seem to remember a lot of players, supporters and management who cared very deeply about it...

Beggars could not be choosers that year;) even then it galled me to mention it in the face of Chelsea / Liverpool fans

Yeah but I seem to remember Piddlesbrough getting about 5000 in a home league cup tie now long ago...

true. very true. but we know how how it feels to get into the fifth round, which I'll grant you is not the bigggest deal in the world but it's still better than not being. and we only had one regular first-teamer playing, before you go donw that route.
