Ironic food is gammon and chips with a huge slice of tinned pineapple on top.

Ms Pembrokestephen has DOZENs of those sort of recipe books (wedding prezzies from her first time around), with the most appalling taste combos, and toe-curling presentation. Yech. She still takes the books seriously - reckons that some of the recipes are OK

Egregious Example: "to brighten the colour of your saffron rice, add a few drops of yellow food colouring before serving".

Ironic in a post-modern irony way. A good thing

top notch meal, that. we have that sometimes in our house, and we know the ironic value of it, but still enjoy it solely for the delicious meal that it is. ham and pineapple is a winning combination

It isn't mouldy!

It's egg and spinach for the green bits. You separate 4 eggs, wilt the spinach and chop it and then stir the yolk and that together, whisk the whites til foamy (but not stiff) and then combine it all.

Spread on a greased/papered tin and bake at 220c for 15 mins. Comes out all thin and spongy.

Put stuff in and roll up - I had mozzarella, rice and garlic mushrooms.

I made ramen and sushi last night though so phooey to the lot of you!

:D

i think if this roulade was made by pie eye, that it looks really really wicked. seems an appropriatly trendy thing to cook these days.

up until now i totally forgot that roulade existed again. :D

reminds me to a cheap icecream called konigs-rolle that my mum used to buy.

the roulade.

nightmare vision of 80s vegetarianism or delicious flavour-packed tube of loveliness.

That reminds me, I really must take the car down to the car wash this weekend.

Dubversion should remember that old Chinese* proverb:

"He who mocks food gets empty belly and no *special* kisses"

Talk about rude.

Poor PieEye. She makes tasty things, their irony or lack thereof is really not relevant.

Next Week: Dub labels PieFace's tagine as too poMo for his liking :p

*old chinese or just made up pootle, I forget exactly which

But what's wrong with that?

Or slices of pineapple?

Irony has no place in the kitchen

It's because we all have weltscherz - we need to give food a po-mo twist or we'd be too bored to eat

Or perhaps I should just throw out my Nigella cookbook :o

Saffron rice should already be yellow - that's what's wrong with that......

I have already chucked How To Eat in the bin and replaced it with the Fray Bentos Compedium of Tasty Pies (1978 edition), which is more of a culinary bible than any of Nigella's pesto-fests will ever be.

Shouldn't that be Weltschmertz, the suffering of the world?

I was just considering and searching around what I may cook veggies this Xmas. This is struck off the list!
