Combating the BNP in local elections.

Balbi

Hey, Dean Yager!
It's coming up on the local council elections and unfortunately the BNP have decided to field a candidate in my area. I'm heading back from university a week Friday and was wondering where exactly to begin in sorting out some sort of effective opposition towards the bastards.

Anyone have any experience/comments?

All you can do is vote for the party for who you think will be best to counter act them.

There's very few people who sit on the fence in these issues, most people will either vote BNP or not vote BNP no matter what rallies you organize of leaflets you post out.

Vote for someone else? Or are you afraid they might have convinvcing arguments other stupid people might be tricked into voting for, and they need a student to save them from themselves? Credit the rest of the population with a little intelligence.

Why not stand as a candidate against them yourself ? That- and ensuring the local BNP arent allowed to distribute leaflets on canvass in support of their candidate

Haven't the BNP generally proven themselves to be a bunch of useless prats in office? Vote BNP and let them embarass themselves again.

definately not. this is a searchlight/state run campaign

 How are the 'state' involved? Don't tell me, Alan Sugar is MI5 with Liona Lewis as Miss Moneypenny. :D

Avoiding emotive language, I think it's more inclusive way of pulling people towards anti-fascism via the mainstream meself.

It's the bogstandard kneejerk Urban response to any mention of Searchlight-inspired activity against the BNP. Try asking the 'state-run/nark' critics what co-ordinated activity against the BNP they propose as an alternative tho'

ignore the peanuts from the gallery, Balbi
Fascism and Anti-Fascism in Britain
www.dkrenton.co.uk/anl/trent1.htm
Website of the left-wing political activist, D K Renton. Offers a comprehensive account of racism before, during and after the First World War, including the anti-Jewish riots of Bethnal Green in 1917. He also covers the rise of Mosley's British Union of Fascism (BUF).

there should be a faq on d k renton's (historian) blog.

He does. But that doesn't stop you from wanting to practice some anti fascism. Contrary to your apparent belief a mass anti fascist movement does not appear as if by magic...

Yeah, Dr John Molyneux, he's an MP (trot) and a lecturer at the uni. He usually has something going on with the rest of the democratic parties in Fratton. I used to go out and stick flyers through doors in Fratton which was their ward.

I have some photos of it all!

Molyneux is a long-standing member of the Social Workers Party. He is NOT an MP. Where on earth did you get the idea that he was an MP?

He was when I was there (six years ago), sure of it.

Where did I say that? What anti-fascism does Balbi want to "practice"? Handing out leaflets? That would make many more likely to vote BNP. Banning the BNP from standing in elections? I disagree with your opinions. Shall I ban your opinions? Contrary to what many on the left claim, the BNP are not about to seize power at the next election. They are a pathetic tiny rump of a party. Beat them with better arguments.

Its not a bogstandard response. Its a belief that to work with Searchlight- as proven by events in history- is a price that cannot afford to be paid

Secondly the analysis provided by Searchlight is getting incresingly falkey and rabid as time goes by. Their hatred for the BNP has blinded them to the reality of the situation on the ground- which is BNP growth, and a very large number of candidates in May -based on the numbers announced so far.

The alternative- a political alternative to them at the ballot box- and No Platform tactics to prevent them from organising
