Collective fund for downloaders

In France they have the right idea - they have a Ministry for Culture that gives grants to musicians, rock bands, rappers, they get cash to write and produce music.

There are of course some stipulations to how this money should be spent (i.e. not spending it all on weed in order to free your materialistic mind) but other than that it's an effective way to ensure that music is constantly in production and more importantly setting up a band requires a level of commitment from each member, and the bands tend to stay together for longer.

I know a few mates in France that have done very well out of this initiative.

Fair point, but if you don't consider 2 grand on stereo equipment expensive, you can't be doing too badly, Jesus Christ, 2 grand, I get less than that to live off for three months

I paid for it with a little savings plan I'd forgotten about that matured - a tenner a month for 10 years

The CD player I bought new for £1200 and marks the limits of my hearing as it was 10 years ago. You could probably buy something of comparable quality for half that now.

The amp was made in 1965 - I bought off a mate for £20 and rebuilt for another 100 quid.

The Quad ESLs were made in the '70s and I paid 700 quid for 2 pairs - they need some work doing to them when I get around to it.

There has to be some consolation for being old and fat and having no life ;)

As I said, plenty of people spend more in a year on cancer sticks.
