Coleslaw - Yes/No?

Well they do, but only because the risk of cross contamination and other assorted nastiness on an operation of that scale and with those processes is particularly worrying.

I'm aware of a couple of smallish firms who cctv their shops/workshop to a main office & the owners homes, solely because the owners are control-freaks who are paranoid about being ripped-off by their staff.

Whatever happened to green coleslaw is what I want to know. Eh? Eh?! You remember - that green coleslaw soaked in vinaigrette rather than mayo...

As for coleslaw, although I can physically stomach it, the moral implication of anything containing cabbage remains difficult. For that alone, in this country, I'd have to accept that it is truly & irredeemably evil stuff. :(

Come on then, post up your coleslaw recipes, everyone :) I used to make my own, but only because Somerfield used to sell these bags of ready-made coleslaw salad, which I'd mix with mayo.

I like coleslaw but I've been taking the lazy, gloopy factory route. Enlighten me with your coleslaw tips

The only thing more disgusting than coleslaw is russian salad.
Both should be erased from the face of the earth - by fire and sword if necessary.

You used to "make my own"? yeah right......

I "make my own" breakfast cereal.

I buy boxes of ready made cereal, which I then tip into a bowel and add milk.

:p  :p

You sick, sick bastard.

White Cabbage - shredded
Carrots - grated
Onion - finely sliced
Mix with mayonnaise
Hey Presto!

Oh and I like to chuck a few raisins in if I'm feeling reeeeaaaally mental ;)

Crinkly green cabbage. Nice strong onion. Sharp apple (granny smith?) and carrot.

All cut to the same sort of size, grind a good bit of black pepper in.

Then the big question - bought or home made mayo?

An old GF used to do 'hot slaw' which was brazil nuts (sliced thin), red onion, red cabbage and cooking apple, flash dry-fried and then splashed with a drop or two of something tasty - cider vinegar I think. Frickin' delicious. I may make some right now.

oh i can't I'm at work, I'll have a jaffa cake instead.

I like coleslaw -- especially when I make it myself -- but I'm totally with you on the Russian salad. Peas and diced, cooked carrots in mayo? Bleugh.

I really like what we call "Mexican coleslaw" that I think may be comparable to what I've heard referred to here as "green coleslaw".

Anyway, shredded green cabbage, chopped green onion, salt pepper, oil, and vinegar. Good stuff.

I'm not usually a big mayo-based coleslaw fan as I find it usually has way too much mayo.

No, no no. Mayo is in the same category as beer, chips, friends, gratuitous sex and laughing. You simply can't have 'too much'.

Hmmm.... It usually has way too much _bad_ mayo? That work?

:) sainsburys (extra special or whatever it is) adds grated parsnip too, and it seems to work

mind if ask you a little Q coz you seem in the know(or anyone else who knows),
I can remember when I was a nipper, having grated carrot ..er salad(?) and it was like it was soaked in something like a dressing, you wouldnt happen to know what to add to grated carrot to make it taste oh so yummy and it really enhanced the sweetness of the carrots, Ta :)

Thanks for the coleslaw tips, I will be buying cabbage this weekend – and trying not to think about EastEnder's milky bowels.

I'm sorry.

Not as sorry as EE should be, though

I don't want any coleslaw now. Or cereal. Ever. Again.
