Coldplay's Chris Martin...

The album does sound a bit rubbish yeh.

He has actually written one or two cracking pop songs in his time, but I think he and his record label realise theres not one of those on this album

I prefer this one to X&Y, which for me was hit and miss. It's going a bit U2 in places though. Lovers in Japan... I think 'the edge' ( ) should check his pedal box. I suspect there's a few missing. But I can see it working in the mega stadium tour scenario. Nothing here for people who don't like middle of the road stuff, and no tracks that I can see having a timeless appeal, like say the Scientist, but I'm quite enjoying it at the moment, and am quite surprised, after hearing the advance track Violet Hill, which for me was dire.

Cheers for the link...

I can't bear Coldplay's music and have little or no interest in what Martin may think, but I find he comes across as less of a twat than I was expecting after reading the first few posts on this thread.

In short, I thought the interviewer's questions were humdrum and overlong (not quite passive/aggressive) and Martin had nothing constructive to say about the thinking behind the album, nor the imagery, nor the band's progress. Much as twister said earlier in the thread. He had to mention the bloody Beatles though...

He sounded stoned more than anything, as if he wanted to mark some sort of act of rebellion on national radio (woohoo) but couldn't make it come across as he'd intended and was afraid of being rumbled for the uninteresting fella he fears/knows himself to be. His leaving three-quarters of the way through seemed, indeed, childish more than anything.

A dullard rather than a twat, then.

He's never interviewed very well, either on the radio or in the papers. For whatever song writing ability he may or may not have, he can't really talk about music (or much else) in a very interesting way. Although TBH I find most musicians are at best very averagely interesting in that way... but the other day I watched an interview with Jay-Z, which was quite an eye opener. Seemed a very thoughtful and sincere guy, quite at odds with the stage image of that scene. Sorry, tangent.
