Coldharbour Lane incidents, May-June 07

It's blocked off again from the corner of Barrington Road towards Camberwell. No idea what for though.

Uh oh. There's at least four police vans, one police car and a curious bright red police van - and that's only what I can see from my window...

*edit: make that at least four police cars

Just walked home down Coldharbour Lane. Police have closed the road by moorland rd as a bus has crashed into the wall, just past that social club place.
Then as I got up to the Prince Albert the road was closed again this time it was a motorbike crash. It looked pretty awful.

a friend of mine walked into the pub a while ago and said it was shut.

I said it was probably another shooting or crash

pretty complacently - which is sad in itself :(

yup... took me a wee while to navigate round the police tape to actually go where i was allowed, in order to get home!

with one incident a bus driver had an epileptic seizure.
with the brixton end of coldharbour lane incident there were two motorcyclists who were doing stunts,ie wheelies and speeding. One of them hit a pedistrian who was immediately killed. The motorcyclist was unable to stand after the collision. The other motorcyclist left the scene.#

terrible and tragic.

That was because of a fire in one of the flats in Kemble House. Totally gutted it. There were 5 fire engines and a helicopter. Seems a lot has been going on today. :(

Sad to say, yet another incident board went up this morning - this one just metres from my front door. Someone was stabbed in the back in broad daylight!

And if that wasn't bad enough, some guy's just been stabbed less than a metre from the block entrance.

What the fuck's the matter with these people?

There was a shooting on my estate 2 nights ago. Fair play to the police - less than 12 hours later we got leaflets through our doors asking for witnesses - gaijinboy heard it but we were inside and saw nothing. I don't think anyone was hurt - or at least we haven't heard that anyone was.

Someone who was there told me the person who died was decapitated...that was the word then anyway. I hope this wasn't the case.

Facts seemed to have got a bit mixed up tho as the same person told me the person who was killed was one of the riders. if that's not the case im sorry. if it is the case, i'm not..

Blimey, I live right by there and completely missed it.
Wonder if the full moon last week had anything to do with it all going a bit crazy?
It has been grim with some of the strange and awful things going on recently.

Well it looks like he'll live if that's him being tended by ambulance crew
He was taken away by a paramedic ambulance shortly after but he didn't seem that bad, thankfully.

Trouble is, serious knife wounds can sometimes look quite mild.

Yeah, could have been in the kidneys, lungs etc.

Not exactly connected with Brixton but my b/f's nephew's friend got stabbed to death in Dublin recently. The three of them had gone out celebrating after exams, asked directions (in a posh part of town) and one of them got stabbed to death. b/f's sister is gutted about it as naturally it could have been her son, and her son himself.... well he's not coping too well at all and he has to sit his finals next week.

Such a tragic waste and totally totally senseless

A long hot summer is predicted

I hope to God these kind of fuckwits brains dont get even more feverish.
Though we dont live in Brixton any more - though we actually moved fro more greenery and birdsong like - all this shit really makes my heart hurt. Its just such utter mad, stupid little kids playing bad-boy, I doubt they have much idea of the damage they cause - well they certainly dont seem to care.

Blimey, I missed all of that last week. Having more of the incidents listed together which you don't actually witness yourself might make you think Brixton is the most dangerous place in England, but the reality is that lots of areas are the same or worse. You just don't get to hear about it.

Sadly, I think a lot more happens in Brixton than actually gets reported. I understand the importance of the bad image, and the stereotyped reputation that affects Brixton, but it isn't a competition to be 'not the worst' etc. If bad stuff is happening, bad stuff is happening, and pretending that it doesn't isn't the best way to get problems addressed. This isn't about Brixton's image - it's about the individuals who get stabbed, shot, mugged, or even simply kept awake night after night by helicopters.
And also what enables young people to take more constructive routes - investment in good parenting, schools, youth service (totally decimated in lambeth within the last decade), role models etc.

And another incident board goes up, this time for the poor sod who was killed by that fucking cunt doing motorbike stunts. :(

In the last month or so around Coldharbour Lane, we've had a fatal shooting, someone being stabbed in the back in broad daylight, a shooting incident and now some fucking show off shithead killing a pedestrian. And that's only the incidents that have made it on to yellow boards.

It's not good, is it?
