When I saw Georgie Fame at the Venue in the early 80s he did some cringingly dreadful reggae-ish thing which also involved talking in a faux Caribbean accent to, I think, his bongo player. Who he called "Red top" or "Red cap". IIRC, which I probably don't. Reggae was really mainstream for a while, so I suppose some ill-judged bandwagon-jumping was inevitable, though TBF Georgie Fame had had bluebeat and ska influences way back. I don't think the song was one of his early ones, though they don't really work nowadays: Singing calypso with bogus accents wasn't seen as especially strange.
The lyrics on that dont do him any favours either. Imitation can be the sincerest form of flattery, but numbers like that arent sincere and they're not flattering - its imitation as spoof
Don't know if anyone has posted this yet, but Mark Perry from Alternative TV does a cracking cover of Ken Boothe's Whole World's Down On Me:
Had a quick trawl through the early cod catches and couldn't see this anywhere. I've just acquired it in a massive bag of free 7s. I'll be releasing this back to the sea
