beatles Obladi oblada - i thought of this as one of their oompa influenced tunes but it turns out its most definitely cod:

"Paul McCartney wrote the song around the time that highlife and reggae were beginning to become popular in Britain. The starting lyric, "Desmond has a barrow in the market-place", was a reference to the first internationally renowned Jamaican ska and reggae performer Desmond Dekker who had just had a successful tour of the UK.[3] The tag line "ob-la-di, ob-la-da, life goes on, bra" was an expression used by Nigerian conga player Jimmy Scott-Emuakpor, an acquaintance of McCartney.[4]"
(Jimmy later tried to sue them for the use of it)

    i like this:
According to studio engineer Geoff Emerick, John Lennon "openly and vocally detested" the song, calling it Paul's "granny music shit".[5] Lennon left the studio during a recording of the song (after several days and literally dozens of takes of the song, trying different tempos and styles), then returned while under the influence of marijuana, went immediately to the piano and played the opening chords much louder and faster than before. He claimed that was how the song should be played, and that is the version they ended up using.[6]

shit piano too :) proper oompa

personally i think the beatles are at their best when they go all out pop, and i dont have a problem with the tune...dont particularly want to listen to it but still

that nina simone track is amazing. fuck.

Anyway, dunno how much this counts as it's an on-u production, but the b-side to punk journalist Vivien Goldman's (only?) single Laundrette is this dubby monster. One of my favourite tunes ever.

Ooh I think that's a Sherwood production. She's on a recent compilation he put out of old stuff he twiddled on. There's an ace Fall track on it too.

it's the dub version on there, which isn't as much of a banger (and also crops up on one of those 'pay it back comps').

I don't think we've had Scritti Politti's 'The Word Girl' on this thread.

I have heard that this song pays homage to deconstructionism. I have no idea if this true.

Sirena Don't monkey with the buzzsaw

It's not really cod reggae because it's a cover of the Kingstonians (prod Derrick Harriott) but it is Three Dog night...

    Actually, it's not that bad.:)
