Cocktails for Beginners

If you like the pineapple tropical type ones:

Blue Lagoon - 3 parts vodka, 1 part blue bols, 4 parts pineapple, 1 lemon.

All fruit juice based cocktails need the bastard shaken out of them. Do not shake cocktails with fizzy drinks in them... you won't be the first :D
I do like a blue drink now and again, but they make me feel very ropey the next day and make your poo go green

my favourite cocktail when I was a teenager was vodka, blue bols, peach shnapps and lemonade.

or a variation was to replace the lemonade for diamond blush :o :D

hurray it's pick on milesy time again

when's it *not*

and of course a bloody mary is a cocktail. anyone who says it isn't is either an idiot or someone purposefully trying to annoy me  ;)

I still make and reccomend here...vodka, cava, peach snapps and orange juice. Make it into a big jug and noone will feel the cold.

Try my tagline, 50/50 each. It's known as a Cherry Bakewell. :D (it's not very sophisticated and it should be drunk from a canteen slung around your neck, but hey, some people like a challenge) :D

Make some Mint Juleps and pretend to be Hunter S Thompson

Put mint, sugar, and a small amount of crushed or shaved ice into the bottom of a julep cup or tall glass. [Optional: Muddle the mint and sugar, then let stand for a bit to allow the broken leaves to release their flavor.] Add bourbon whiskey, top off with crushed or shaved ice, and stir well to mix and chill the libation.

This is another one you can make en-masse and just add the garnishes as you serve.

Ta everyone!

Bloody Mary's will be for the morning/lunchtime after the night before though.

I've got too much choice now though, although I can say emphatically that they're won't be any redbull and I *probably* won't be buying any Buckie either!

Might just cheat and go and get some of those cocktail mixes...:o

Not technically a cocktail :p

Neither is Mojito as it goes. A true cocktail should be a spirit, a cordial and some fruit juice.

Sez who? None of the nice cocktails have fruit juice in.

Say those of us who set themselves up as know-it-all authorities on the history of mixed drinks.

So... is anyone rimming before making their cocktails? I heard that rimming makes all the difference to a cocktail. Don't forget to use rimming sugar to make that rim taste lovely and sweet

I used to rim the glass with salt for a Margherita. But have since decided that it actually tastes a lot better when shaken into the drink.

I like to add a powdered colour to my rimming. Sometimes the rimming is sweet but sometimes I like my rimming salty.

oooh is this an actual fact or just someone being argumentative on teh internets? :)

Ooh zombies. Damn good drink that isn't it?

The cocktail 'fact' was read by me in a book on the history of cocktails. So it could be bollocks, but it is bollocks I restated in good faith.

it sure is, although the missus had to top hers up a bit with extra pineapple juice :D

and in that case, idaho, i take your word for it, and if i repeat it to someone else and get told i'm talking bollocks, i'll tell them someone on teh internets told me it

If it seems too strong - that is often because of insufficient ice. Shake it with about 8 cubes and have 5-7 fresh cubes in the glass too.

A variation. The 'Killer Zombie'

White, Gold, Dark Rum, Orgeat Syrup, Orange & Pineapple Juice, Blue Curacao topped up with Woods 100 Rum (or some other kind of stupidly overproof rum if you can get it)

the second one's much better, shaken over ice. i had thought about it with the first lot but, er, didn't. cheers idaho, my New Best Friend.

I've one called the ginger ninja, it's stone's ginger wine, whiskey, white rum topped up with ginger ale and with a piece of crystalized ginger in the bottom. Rimmed with ginger flavoured sugar (sugar that's been left in a sealed jar with a few pieces of fresh ginger for months)

This cocktail ruined my life exactly two years ago
