What was that song you were singing in Cardiff again?

Anyway, cricket's the new football dont'cha know.

Hmmmm.

If you're lucky we might find some cricket on the TV when we're in Geneva with nothing to do in November.

I do want England to win in general but
--Eriksson's a tosser & if the defeat recently hastens his departure, good
--if I had to choose, it'd be club (Everton) vs country. When Rooney played so well for England & Eriksson blatantly urged him to change clubs, that was way out of order. For that alone (& he has done it with other players eg SWP?) Eriksson should go.

In cricket, Lancashire is my team sort of, but a bit Manchester-oriented. I'd defintely rather England regain the Ashes than Lancs win a championship, but this latter would be nice.

I don't agree we should do away with international football on the basis that its still very clearly popular with a lot of people. Now we're seeing the Premiership bubble, to an extent, burst it'll be interesting to see how international football holds especially now that Sven and a lot of other coaches have effectively killed the international friendly and England are continously drawn to mediocre teams in their qualifying groups.

I think you'lll find it's manages of Premiership teams who have killed off the friendlies, saying players can only play 45 mins etc.

And as for drawing mediocre teams in qualifying, its a seeding system, it would hardly be fare to have Holland Spain Italy Germany and England in one group and then Malta, Wales, San Marino, Andorra and Liectenstein in another.

But just for your information heres some of the trickier teams we've had in qualifying in the past, so you won't make such daft comments.

WC 94: Holland, Poland, Norway
WC 98: Italy
EC 2000: Sweden, Poland
WC 02: Germany
EC 04: Turkey

Its usually those who are most suckered in to believe England will actually win the next football tournament, usually feel so grieved when they don't and are the first to call for the managers head.

Club over country for me ! Personally I prefer regular football every week , a game once every couple of months or so just doesn't bother me that much . And I think there are much better games in club football with local rivalries and teams you hate which I think you just don't get in internationals !

I think that people who support big teams tend to have less interest in the national team for two reasons:

1/ They support a team which is generally successful, so why go to the effort of supporting a team like England, Wales, Scotland etc. when you know it's going to end in disappointment, and knowing you'll have to live with that disappointment, of what if that ref had only given Terry's/Campbell's goal for the next two years (atleast).

They support sucesful teams, is not in their nature to support a team which loses.

2/ Speaking as someone who supports a small club (Worksop Town) I know very few other Worksop Town fans, and when the Championships come around its actually nice to be able to talk to my best mates and speak of the joy and share in the misery when our team wins or loses, or just hugging the random person next to you in the pub when we score a goal, or chatting with stranges on the bus about the game. It unites the country, so although I can understand why some people aren't interested in the national team, I don't know why supporters of big clubs actually hope England lose, which I know a fair few do. When it actually brings alot of people together, and brings some unity and happiness to the country.
